Often if I back up one scene I can figure out where I went wrong.

If I'm not sure where to take the story next, I get out pen and paper and make a list of my character's options and the pros and cons of each. Usually one idea on the list will strike me as being more fun or "right". Sometimes, I combine two options.(less)

A pair of interesting heroes (no over-privileged dukes here!) a taxidermist and an austistic half-Indian man running a lodging house. Add in a murder and the pages flew by. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Historical Venice plus vampires! Very interesting to see Mircea meet the Consul as a powerless baby vamp, so different from the smooth senator we know in the Cassie and Dorina present day series. Well-plotted and with plenty of action.
