Kenneth McLeish was educated at Bradford Grammar School and at Worcester College, Oxford. He was a regular broadcaster on musical and literary topics, and his books include an important critical study, The Theatre of Aristophanes, translations of Sophocles and of Aristophanes, and many books for children.
His output included all 47 of the surviving classical Greek plays, most of Ibsen and Feydeau, as well as individual plays by Plautus, Moliere, Jarry, Strindberg, Horvath and Labiche.
