Whiskey, Words & Rockfish

Where crime fiction meets real life, one stiff drink at a time

Let’s give a big round of applause for the new site monthly newsletter, Whiskey Words & Rockfish. I’m giving this a second try to keep you better informed about me, what I like, hot recommendations,  my dogs and of course everything in the Rockfish Universe.

Click Here to read it online, or download it for later reading once you’ve poured yourself a stiff drink and have the foot rest up on the recliner.

Is it better than my original one? You tell me.

And lastly, I hope to have some news soon about the future of “The Weight of Regret: From the Case Files of Steve Rockfish – 5”.

Murder at the Reunion: Unraveling Secrets in Steve Rockfish’s Latest

Testing: 1, 2, 3 🎙 Is this thing on? I know it’s been a while but I thought I would stop writing this morning to give you a much overdue update on the 5th Steve Rockfish novel.

The Weight of Regret has progressed quickly over the past two months. I should wrap up Chapter 10 by the end of this week. The story is anticipated to be roughly 14 – 16 chapters long. But since I don’t have an ending yet, the math is a little fuzzy there. I’ve tweaked my summaries for the story:

Book description

PI Steve Rockfish reluctantly shows up to his 40th high school reunion, already planning a quiet Irish goodbye. But when two classmates sneak off to relive old memories and one turns up brutally murdered in the teacher’s lounge, the party is over and the hunt begins.

Urged to investigate by shaken classmates, Rockfish digs in, only to uncover links to other potential victims and long-buried secrets he’s tried to forget. The case forces him to reckon with a past he regrets, as guilt and revenge threaten to cloud his judgment.

The closer Rockfish gets to the truth, the more he must confront a haunting possibility: his own actions may have sparked the chain of events. Can he stop a killer, and atone for the past, or will the weight of regret take down not just him, but other members of Bonaparte High’s Class of ’85?

50 word description

Steve Rockfish came to his reunion to drink cheap booze and dodge old mistakes. Then someone turned up dead and the trail leads straight back to a memory he buried. Deep. Now he’s chasing a killer through the wreckage of his past, hoping to solve the case before it solves him.

Elevator Pitch

PI Steve Rockfish shows up to his 40th reunion planning a quiet exit. Then a classmate turns up dead, and the past he’s buried comes out swinging.

Tag lines

“The past doesn’t forget. And it sure as hell doesn’t forgive.”

“You can’t outdrink regret or outrun it.”

I created an AI generated cover that I hope my publisher uses a template. As you can see by the image at the bottom of this post, the story is darker than the previous four, but the sarcasm and dry humor still made the cut. I’d love to hear what you think of it.
