Turtles and social media

Today our daughter Leah and I were going to the local track to walk, and Leah spotted a turtle by our garage. We’ve seen him (her? how do you tell?) hanging around our yard before, but I snapped (pun) a quick picture and then posted it on my personal Facebook page, asking, “What should we name him?” To my surprise, there was an immediate response from my friends! Who knew? While there wasn’t hundreds or 1000’s of responses, the fast... Read more »

What’s your diamond?

Our daughter Leah and I are reading through Jon Acuff’s book, Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average, Do Work That Matters. It’s a great book if you feel stalled in your personal or professional life. Since graduating from our homeschool, Leah isn’t sure what she wants to do regarding a job, career or ministry, so I ordered this book which is part of Dave Ramsey’s Graduate’s Survival Guide. Today’s reading was about rocks versus diamonds. Jon writes that... Read more »

There’s a lot going on in our family right now. Birthdays, babies, and books, oh my! My husband Ray had his milestone 50th birthday this week. In the picture above, you see him wearing the “Champ” t-shirt I bought him. I also made him breakfast (yes, this is quite a feat for me as I hate to cook!), baked him a home-made lime pie (he loves limes),and bought him the t-shirt and work socks. I’m also hosting a birthday bbq... Read more »

What storms have you been through?

What storms have you been through in your life? Several years ago, Ray, our daughter Leah, our cat and I were under a tornado warning at our house in the country just outside Garden City, MO. A tornado had been spotted on the ground and the sirens were going off. Fortunately, we had a basement where we lived and we ran downstairs to take cover in the basement, with a battery-powered radio and Leah holding tightly onto her calico cat,... Read more »

Prayer is my gift

Sometimes my husband Ray brings me gifts home. Just because gifts ~ my favorite flowers (long-stemmed, red roses or friendly white daisies), chocolate, an emerald-green scarf to match my eyes, jewelry, and this week a pretty, unique, black wrap, pictured here. And I do the same for Ray, but him more than me. But my main gift for Ray is prayer. It is my gift for our kids and our grandkids, those I love and know. It’s what I have... Read more »
