Juliet E McKenna is a British fantasy author living in the Cotswolds, UK. Loving history, myth and other worlds since she first learned to read, she has written fifteen epic fantasy novels, from The Thief’s Gamble which began The Tales of Einarinn in 1999, to Defiant Peaks concluding The Hadrumal Crisis trilogy.

She's currently writing modern fantasy rooted in the ancient myths and folklore of the British Isles. The series so far consists of The Green Man's Heir, The Green Man's Foe, The Green Man's Silence, The Green Man's Challenge and The Green Man's Gift. She has also written an Arthurian novel, The Cleaving, to be published in 2023.

The question is what's the best way for me to get those stories to keen readers? And do you folks want more short fiction or some new novels?

No mainstream publisher is going to pick up a new novel series set in that world just at the moment. But if I'm going to keep writing full time, I really could do with a mass-market contract...

Would enough people be keen on say, a novel where we find out what's been happening in the Ice Islands, and over on Kellarin, to make self-publishing an ebook/PoD edition worthwhile? Maybe looking in more detail as the Sheltya and the Mountain society? I'd certainly like to write that.

There is a new Einarinn short story in the 'Journeys' anthology coming out next month, and I really enjoyed writing that. So I am certainly thinking about writing some more short fiction in that world this year.

That said - knowing how daunting I find it as a reader myself, when I see the latest in an umpty book series which looks good, but I cannot imagine where I'd find the time to catch up - I have worked hard to make all these separate series sufficiently stand alone that you can read one without having read the others. To give new readers a fresh entry point into this world with each of these four stories. At the same time, established readers have their own fun seeing what's going on with characters they've already met.

So take a look at the overviews of each series over on my website and see what you fancy reading next, as far as I am concerned :) (less)

A Reading Recommendation – The Tangled Lands from Glenda Larke

A major plus of being an author is reading new work from other writers ahead of publication. I thoroughly enjoyed The Tangled Lands from Glenda Larke, published by Wizard’s Tower Press on January 26th 2023. The story starts with the birth of a royal heir to the realm of Talodic, but it’s clear the king has enemies who are hatching an audacious plan to force his hand to – do what, exactly? And who
