Juliet E McKenna is a British fantasy author living in the Cotswolds, UK. Loving history, myth and other worlds since she first learned to read, she has written fifteen epic fantasy novels, from The Thief’s Gamble which began The Tales of Einarinn in 1999, to Defiant Peaks concluding The Hadrumal Crisis trilogy.

Her new novel (August 2019) is her second modern fantasy rooted in the ancient myths and folklore of the British Isles. The Green Man's Foe is the sequel to The Green Man's Heir (2018).

When you do a good job for someone, there’s a strong chance they’ll offer you more work or recommend you elsewhere. So Daniel Mackmain isn’t particularly surprised when his boss’s architect brother asks for his help on a historic house renovation in t

The question is what's the best way for me to get those stories to keen readers? And do you folks want more short fiction or some new novels?

No mainstream publisher is going to pick up a new novel series set in that world just at the moment. But if I'm going to keep writing full time, I really could do with a mass-market contract...

Would enough people be keen on say, a novel where we find out what's been happening in the Ice Islands, and over on Kellarin, to make self-publishing an ebook/PoD edition worthwhile? Maybe looking in more detail as the Sheltya and the Mountain society? I'd certainly like to write that.

There is a new Einarinn short story in the 'Journeys' anthology coming out next month, and I really enjoyed writing that. So I am certainly thinking about writing some more short fiction in that world this year.

That said - knowing how daunting I find it as a reader myself, when I see the latest in an umpty book series which looks good, but I cannot imagine where I'd find the time to catch up - I have worked hard to make all these separate series sufficiently stand alone that you can read one without having read the others. To give new readers a fresh entry point into this world with each of these four stories. At the same time, established readers have their own fun seeing what's going on with characters they've already met.

So take a look at the overviews of each series over on my website and see what you fancy reading next, as far as I am concerned :) (less)

My flying visit to Sweden – an absolutely excellent trip

I’ve been pals with multi-faceted writer Steven Savile for years now, so when he asked if I might be interested in doing an event in Sweden, naturally I said yes. A little while later, Jan Smedh of The English Bookshop in Uppsala got in touch to invite me to the evening he was organising for the city’s annual Culture Night. When everything was finalised, we had a mini-SF-Crime convention, with...

"Phenomenal Book!

I picked this up after reading a recommendation from one of my favourite fantasy authors, Charles de Lint. I figured if he loved it, it had to be good. It wasn't quite what I thought I expected but it was a truly phenomenal read." Read more of this review »
