The question is what's the best way for me to get those stories to keen readers? And do you folks want more short fiction or some new novels?

No mainstream publisher is going to pick up a new novel series set in that world just at the moment. But if I'm going to keep writing full time, I really could do with a mass-market contract...

Would enough people be keen on say, a novel where we find out what's been happening in the Ice Islands, and over on Kellarin, to make self-publishing an ebook/PoD edition worthwhile? Maybe looking in more detail as the Sheltya and the Mountain society? I'd certainly like to write that.

There is a new Einarinn short story in the 'Journeys' anthology coming out next month, and I really enjoyed writing that. So I am certainly thinking about writing some more short fiction in that world this year.

That said - knowing how daunting I find it as a reader myself, when I see the latest in an umpty book series which looks good, but I cannot imagine where I'd find the time to catch up - I have worked hard to make all these separate series sufficiently stand alone that you can read one without having read the others. To give new readers a fresh entry point into this world with each of these four stories. At the same time, established readers have their own fun seeing what's going on with characters they've already met.

So take a look at the overviews of each series over on my website and see what you fancy reading next, as far as I am concerned :) (less)

An October update in this year of treading water…

I was talking to one of my sons, and I commented that life felt stuck in an endless holding pattern these days. He likened it to treading water, and the more I think about that, the more apt it feels. Repetitive activity that gets tiring without actually moving on, and no sense of solid ground under your feet.

Thank goodness for things to break up the monotony!

First up, the Irish National SF Conv

"Phenomenal Book!

I picked this up after reading a recommendation from one of my favourite fantasy authors, Charles de Lint. I figured if he loved it, it had to be good. It wasn't quite what I thought I expected but it was a truly phenomenal read." Read more of this review »
