Woodstock Film Festival (Casting Forward)

I had a wonderful time at the Woodstock Film Festival attending the World Premier of the Feature Film: "Mending the Line," a Joshua Caldwell Film. The World Premiere of the movie “Mending the Line” was a total triumph and I can’t wait for it to move to distribution so that everyone can see it.

The next morning Director Joshua Caldwell and I slipped out for a quick trip to the river where I caught and lost a rainbow and he caught and landed a few. More importantly, it gave me time on the river with my newest old friend. I am grateful.

Now that I'm back home in Texas I am reliving my time in the Birthplace of American Fly Fishing after an amazing two days in the beautiful Catskills of New York. I will miss Woodstock and upstate New York… a beautiful place with such kind and welcoming people.

Namaste’ Y’all…Keep Casting Forward!

Just Sharing...

“When I decided to leave my job, I went fishing and never looked back.

I went fishing in part because I knew that the rivers and the hills could

teach me the truths I once knew and had forgotten. I went fishing because

I knew that rising trout and singing warblers have wisdom, and because

for the first time in my life, I knew all the things that I never wanted to

do again, and all the places I never wanted to be, and all the people I never

wanted to be around. I knew that life was too damn precious and fleeting

for meaningless meetings and malignant greetings. I knew that from this

moment on, I wanted to be free, feral, authentic . . . even revolutionary in

my pursuit of a life worth living. I went fishing because it causes me to feel alive, and because the life that I was walking away from was draining my

soul and killing my passion, little by little, irrevocably.”

~ Steve Ramirez, from Casting Onward

“When I think of all the time I have spent in this finite life, sitting in meeting with academics, politicians, and other blowhards, listening to inflated egos pontificate at length about the grand value of nothing, I become overwhelmed with a mixture of ironic amusement and idiotic regret. After all, I could have been fishing.

Steve Ramirez: NEd Talk at the Riverside Nature Center on the banks of the Guadalupe River

I am honored to be invited to present this NEd Talk at the Riverside Nature Center on the banks of the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country. (Kerrville, Texas)

I hope to see some of you there for a reading of some of my favorite passages from my three books thus far in this series. I will share about my travels and experiences in writing these three books and include some stories that may take us from Alaska to the Caribbean, and Long Island to the California Coast and many places in between.

We will also chat about the healing powers of nature and how we might return the favor by doing our part in healing nature.

The Riverside Nature Center is planning to have both of my current books available for sale with the proceeds going to support the good work they do.

I’d be honored to meet you and sign your books during the event.

The Riverside Nature Center is located at 150 Francisco Lemos Kerrville, Texas 78028. Phone: 830 -257- 4837. Email: RNC.Kerrville@gmail.com

"Casting Forward" plays a role in the Movie "Mending The Line" as it Celebrates is World Premier!

Just Sharing …

It appears that I may be flying up to New York as a guest of the producers and director at the World Premiere of “Mending the Line.”

I am deeply honored to have my book, “Casting Forward” and some of my words as a small part of this beautiful movie.

The 23rd Woodstock Film Festival with our Opening Night Film and world premiere of MENDING THE LINE (starring Sinqua Walls, Brian Cox, Perry Mattfeld, and Wes Studi).

While ostensibly a film about PTSD, MENDING THE LINE is really a story about finding something to make living worthwhile, when a young wounded Marine receiving trauma care forms a bond with a man twice his age, who sees the mysteries of fly-fishing as holding the true healing power.

The 23rd Annual Woodstock Film Festival runs September 28th through October 2nd.

Trout Magazine's Kirk Deeter Reviews "Casting Onward!"

It was so nice of my dear friend Kirk Deeter to review Casting Onward for Trout Magazine. Full disclosure: Kirk is in three chapters of the book and we are friends…but he only says and writes what he really thinks and if you don’t know that…you don’t know Kirk Deeter!

By the way… I do hope you enjoy and find life-value in Casting Onward. If so, please consider leaving a brief, positive review on Amazon or wherever you ordered the book from. After years of hard work… I appreciate your kindness and support!

Namaste’ Y’all!

*minor correction: Lyons Press is my publisher, not Stackpole as mentioned in this otherwise perfect review.
