Lizzie - as you are reading Indian authors I recommend two that I adored - Amitov Ghosh's Glass Palace (now reading his Sea of Poppies which was shortlisted for the Booker),and Vikram Seth's Suitable Boy - both are great and gripping reads, well written..(and thankfully less sad than the Rohinton Mistry!) Also loved a kooky one by Vikram Chandra, need to get name..I kept giving it to people and they thought I was nuts. Shelby
