So you want to be a published author: 5 things to think about first
Hi, friends!
New year, new…whatever.
ANYWAY! Thought I’d get back into the groove here with some more blogging. Not that I haven’t been blogging/writing/podcasting, It’s just that I’ve kind of left my website all by itself and that ain’t right!
Okay. So I thought I’d bring some things up for y’all to think about — ESPECIALLY if you’re an unpublished author looking to be published and get your debut novel out there for the world to see.
What new authors don’t realize is that publishing is not...

Tales from an aging fangirl
Been thinking about this, on World AIDS Day.
Greetings, fellow travelers!
I’ve been thinking about some things. As you’ll see.
I’ll start my train of thought by telling you that I’m a fangirl, and I have been pretty much my entire life. Those of us who participate in fandoms — especially if we’re from marginalized groups — find our tribes in them. We find inspiration, support, creativity, friends, lovers, partners, spouses.
I’ve found support in fandoms. And for those of us wh...

10 things to help you get your manuscript ready for submission
Hi, peeps!
So here we are in a new year and I know for a fact that bunches of you are working on manuscripts and once you’re done with your draft, you’re going to hopefully get it submission-ready. That is, you’re going to prep it in hopes that a publisher will think it’s awesome and sexy.
First things first. Not all houses accept a full manuscript for a read. They might just want the first few chapters. Or maybe the first few chapters and the last few. That’s fine. The point is, if you have...

10 things you can do for a productive writerly new year
Hi, all!
Hope your holidays went awesomely and that you’re well on your way to settling into this latest chronological trip around the sun.
So let’s talk new year, new opportunities.
I don’t make resolutions. Instead, I make a few goals to accomplish but leave options open for opportunities that may spin off said goals and/or things that don’t go so well. I also create new good habits or strengthen existing ones if I haven’t been as engaged as I’d like in those.
So here are 10 things to do to...

Happy Friday! Here’s a Halloween reading for you! (plus giveaway!)
Hey, all!
So I decided to post a reading from my Halloween-flavored book, The Secret of Sleepy Hollow, which is my re-telling of the classic American ghost story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the short story by Washington Irving (which you can read at Project Gutenberg). [image error]
Many of you probably know the story. Or at least parts of it. A lanky, superstitious teacher Ichabod Crane goes to a village in 1790 ostensibly for his job and seems to take a shine to a local woman, Katrina Van Tassel, but...

Wynonna Earp 2.12 recap: “I Hope You Dance” and have all the feelz too
Hey kids —
The finale, fellow Earpers.
This was a really amazing episode, full of emotionally wrenching scenes and really amazing bonding, and feelz, and snark…it blew everything out of the water and set the stage for S3 in amazing ways.
I say we start campaigning now for S4.
Anyway,
SPOILERS! THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW. DON’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED.Let’s get to it.
So we left off in 2.11 with Wynonna out of the picture because of Greta the Iron Witch’s stupid spell. And we had Doc aware of th...

Wynonna Earp recap 2.11: “Gone As a Girl Can Get,” or, the Wynonna Earp AU tragic fanfic episode
HEY, everybody! Welcome to another wild ride at the Earpstead and through Purgatory. Damn, y’all. DAMN with this episode.
Things continue to ramp up to super-cray as the season winds down. One more episode, friends, and then we all have to wait until Season 3!!!!
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Knowing Andras, it’s going to be one hell of a cliffhanger.
Okay, per usual…

Wynonna Earp Recap 2.10: “I See a Darkness” and a whole lotta WTF on the horizon, too
Hey, everybody. I’m running a bit late on this recap. The world is a giant steaming bucket of hellfuck, and I think you all know whereof I speak. But Earpers unite, dammit, and let’s do some good in the world with the time we’ve got.
On that note, let’s ponder this last episode, which managed to beat 2.09 in over-the-toppery. Pretty sure the last two episodes of the season will manage to top this one and each other, so just be aware that things are going to get even more cray.
And, as always,...

Wynonna Earp recap 2.09: “Forever Mine Nevermind” or, a clusterf*ck of monumental proportions
Welp.
I…um. Andras said this episode was going to be basically out of control and she never fails to come through in that regard.
Every episode ratchets up the cray, both with creepiness and internal drama and now we are hurtling toward the end of the season and things are so beyond control right now that I don’t even know how a Season 3 is going to top this. But it’s Andras, and she has an amazing cast, crew, and writing team so there’s that.
Right now, I’m still processing everything that h...
