Lessons Left Behind
Sometimes, a person comes into your life to teach you:
How not to love
How not just settle
How not to shrink yourself down into their foolish example of a friendship.
Sometimes, these people leave, walk out of your life and no longer communicate with you, and that’s ok…. because their lessons always stay behind.
And that’s what matters the most…That their lessons remain.
Sometimes, it’s what it takes to know your worth ♡

November’s Blessings
Smiles have no religion, race or tax bracket. Whether it be to God above, a loved one, a family member, a friend or to yourself; smile.
Smiles are the key to turning frowns upside down. A connection, a reassurance, a warmth within ourselves when a memory or moment makes us smile.
I share my smile with you.
Faith does not have a religion, race or tax bracket. Whether it be God above, a loved one, a family member, a friend and even yourself; have faith. Reach for that goal and have faith in yourself along the way.
It is so easy to diminish your own self being and self worth by not believing in yourself and not having faith in yourself. Turn the negative downsize into a positive upsize of faith, that you can accomplish anything you put your heart, trust and faith into.
I have faith in you.
Hope is not a sign of religion, race or a tax bracket. Whether it be God above, a loved one, family member, a friend or even yourself; keep hope alive in your heart.
Hope for a future free of hate, hope for peace amongst all and hope that we are all as equal as the moon we sleep under. Turn the negative crimes into positive times.
This is my hope for you.
Joy comes in all religions, race or tax brackets. Whether it’s with God above, a loved one, a family member, a friend or even yourself; give joy.
For the life we are given, the sights we can see, the all we can feel is a joyous gift from life. The smiles it brings, a sparkle in a child’s eye and a warm feeling of only positive when it is joy that you bring.
I give my joy to you.
Peace has no religion, race or tax bracket. Peace is in God above, a loved one, a family member, a friend and starts within yourself; so spread peace.
A little ironic to say with all the hate in the world, is there still a chance for peace? Yes, but we need to be positive and give peace a chance.
I share my peace be with you.
Kindness lives in all religions, race and tax brackets. Through God above, a loved one, a family member, a friend and towards yourself; be kind. Kindness is like a multitude of positive actions in your day.
With kindness you bring smiles, faith, hope, joy and peace into your life and into the lives of others around you. And like the Smiles, the Faith, the Hope, the Joy and the Peace; Kindness also starts with you.
May kindness find its way to you.
Blessings come in all forms of life. May your life be blessed with them all.
Peace, blessings and happy November to you all.
Your friend, Catherine Mellen

Trick or Treat
Don’t talk to strangers
We are raised to believe
But all of that changes
On the night of Halloween eve.
Dress up in disguise
A fairy or a witch
A super hero that flies
Or maybe Lilo and Stitch.
Knock knock on a door
Then say, “Trick or Treat”
And like the house before
You’ll get a snack to eat.
No need to be scared
Smile through your mask
You have to be prepared
To quickly multi task.
A bag or pillowcase
Fill it up with candy
Keeping it in place
Makes it pretty handy.
Knock knock on a door
Then say, “Trick or Treat.”
Fill your bag up even more
From houses on the street.
Chocolate bars and gumballs
Or a fruity bag of skittles
A no choking hazard calls
With candy for the littles.
Busy streets you run about
And the houses in between
A spooky scary shout out
And a ghoulish Halloween.
A day you get to explore
The stranger’s you will meet
Knock knock on a door
Then say, “Trick or Treat.”

The Good Witch
And of course I had to write one about a…. Good Witch
There’s plenty of room on her broom
For anyone who wants to be nice
Flying all day, coming your way
Kindness does not have a price.
Gives you candy, can be handy
With odd jobs around the house
Don’t you fret, she will help a pet
A dog, a cat and even a mouse.
If she’s able, she’ll fill your table
With lots of food to eat
Give you clothes, covers your toes
With shoes for both your feet.
Maybe a smile, all the while
Blessing you with her love
Her creation is a sensation
Happiness from up above
Always glad to happily add
An extra helping hand
Clears a path, helps with math
To better understand.
Not one spell does she tell
Anger she does not pitch
Every Halloween she is seen
As the one and only good witch.

The Bad Witch
How about some Monday morning Halloween Poetry
From my 2026 Halloween in Poetry Land Collection… The Bad Witch
There is no room, on her broom
For any extra passengers
Taking flight, every night
For street cleaning scavengers.
Not too clean, she’s really mean
And will take away your things
With a verse, inflicts a curse
And a deadly spell it brings.
Moving slow, being a crow
Or did she turn you to stone?
Locked in a cave, being a slave
Or freeze dried to the bone.
Maybe a rabbit, an old habit
The bad witch always makes
Turned to dust, or maybe rust
Like particles of floating flakes.
Treat her badly, she will gladly
Turn you into a bat
Push her more, then you score
A hundred years as a cat.
Try to be nice, there is a price
As she buries you in a ditch
Kills your soul and plays the role
Of the one and only bad witch.

Forty-one Years Ago Today
Forty-one years ago today, life seemed so promising. When we as Americans had a promising future to look forward too.
Forty-one years ago today, I was waiting for my dad to get discharged from the hospital after his procedure, a procedure he did not survive from. I was also at the start of a friendship that would leave me thinking of the boy who grew into a man, every single day for the rest of my life.
I don’t know why life was so cruel to me, thinking it was ok to take the two men who loved me unconditionally on the same day, years apart. Maybe it was what Jon told me back in 1986, that of all the days I’ve cried on, the only day I deserved to cry on was October 17th, the day my dad died.
Despite all I have been through prior to forty-one years ago today, for a brief moment when it was all those years ago today, life seemed so promising. Because forty-one years ago today, I still had those two men in my life and though it has been decades in the making of missing them, they are always close by in my heart.
Love and family were the two things that were lacked in my young life, but I was blessed with forty-one years ago today, when I was given enough love to last me my lifetime.

A Moment In Time
Forty-one years ago today, October 7th was on a Friday.
I was going to sleep at my dad’s house, but my friend wanted me to go to a birthday party with her. My dad even insisted I go when I talked with him on the phone.
Not knowing that would be the last time I’d ever talk to my dad again, I went to the party where I began one of the greatest friendships I would ever know.
And though I am blessed for the memories and grateful for their love, if only I could have just one more moment of that forty-one years ago today, when I still had the two men who loved me, here with me ♡
Happy heavenly marvelous night for a Moondance birthday Jon

I’m That Girl
Behind the girl who says, “Everything happens for a reason”, or “It is what it is.”
Is a girl who can’t understand what she did to deserve all the pain and trauma she’s gone through in her life, a girl who struggles to understand her past, a girl who will never come to terms with the way the world has treated her, a girl who is an old soul where love and loyalty still rule in a world who loves to break them.
That’s me, I’m that girl ⚘️ Read about my life, but don’t have any pity. I’m a strong Irish girl from an All-American City ♡

Decisions
I wrote this poem when I was 15 years old and published it at age 54. Life’s lessons sure do continue to teach…
Decisions
Everyday you take a chance
A chance you hope you don’t regret.
And as you are taking the chance
You hope to get what you expect.
Everyday you make a choice
A choice you make on your own.
And you hope the choice you make
Makes your happiness be known.
Sometimes the chance you take
Leaves you unhappy and blue.
Or the choice you make
Really isn’t the one for you.
Whether you win or lose
That’s the chance you take.
You won’t know the answer
Unless there’s a choice to make.
The Chances and Choices
You do each and every day.
Are the lessons of life
You learn in your own unique way.
This poem can be found with over 70 others that are neatly placed together in one book…

A Witches Brew
It’s October and time to share my recipe…
A Witches Brew
That time of year, to give a scare
To the children in the neighborhood
Tasty little critters, will get the jitters
When I’m cooking them over wood.
Cast iron pot, will be real hot
And ready for a delicious stew
It is a feast, to say the least
An all day simmered brew.
A tisket a tasket, a girl in a basket
And a little boy for some flavor
Throw them in and then begin
A delightful taste to savor.
A daffodil or Lily, a dash of powdered chili
A bit of seasoning for taste
One child’s coat, an ear from a goat
Leave nothing left for waste.
A splitter, a splatter, mix-up the batter
Don’t you want some pie?
A crust to make, then off to bake
Set the temperature on high.
Hands, toes and a tiny nose
Sure will make a tasty treat.
Pie and stew will take a few
Before they are ready to eat
Back to the yard, it won’t be hard
To scare the children some more
Collect them all, small and tall
There are recipes to explore.
Safe in jars or behind bars
We keep a charming crew
What we eat, off the street
Is a delicious witches brew.
