"This Greek-inspired fantasy sees young fledgling Greek warriors sent straight from the training grounds to a large battle against a herd of minotaurs. Not many survive and those who do are far from safe.
There is a small and well-defined cast of chara" Read more of this review » |

I’m not a massive fan of the age-old saying “Never judge a book by its cover.” I know it’s only a metaphorical phrase, but still … if I see a cover with a crossbow-wielding half-orc riding a massive hog with four tusks then it’d better be a tale full ...more | |

"I'm mixed on this.
On the one hand reading this felt like homework—opening up to a glossary of Greek terms sets the tone for what you're in for because from chapter 1 you're bombarded with those words to test your knowledge. Also, in most cases settin" Read more of this review » |

“There was a saying my own father used to repeat to me when I was a lad. He said that real heroes are those who don’t even realise who they are or what they have done.”

“The sudden noise made Aldarin jolt up in surprise, his hand reaching automatically over his shoulder to draw an axe that wasn’t there. Jelaïa caught sight of his expression and burst out laughing. “Oh no, geese!” she shouted in mock distress. “Whatever shall I do? Save me, my brave knight, from these devious birds of death!” She batted her eyelashes. Aldarin scowled, then the corner of his mouth twitched, and he let out a deep laugh of his own.”

“The second thing you have to do to be a writer is to keep on writing. Don't listen to people who tell you that very few people get published and you won't be one of them. Don't listen to your friend who says you are better that Tolkien and don't have to try any more. Keep writing, keep faith in the idea that you have unique stories to tell, and tell them. I meet far too many people who are going to be writers 'someday.' When they are out of high school, when they've finished college, after the wedding, when the kids are older, after I retire . . . That is such a trap You will never have any more free time than you do right now. So, whether you are 12 or 70, you should sit down today and start being a writer if that is what you want to do. You might have to write on a notebook while your kids are playing on the swings or write in your car on your coffee break. That's okay. I think we've all 'been there, done that.' It all starts with the writing. ”
