FREE Advertising
It occurred to me that some of those now receiving this missive may not know that all of the advertising in the Winter Edition and Spring Edition was/is FREE. Why do I bring up at this moment? I have spots left that I would love to fill. With the hope of supporting small business, I am offering real professional advertising service for FREE. There are spaces for editors, author coaches, artists, cover designers, cover reveals, upcoming/recent releases, publishing houses, graphic designers, booktubers, and more. For more information, send your business information to cleanfictionmagazine@gmail.com . I am so excited to see what you send me! (Side Note: If you had an Editor Listing in the Winter Edition it has already been included in the Spring Edition. Every other business should have already been contacted.)
Deadline is February 12th
for Advertising, Voting for the Book Fan Art Contest, and Submissions for the Cover Art Contest (See This Week's Community Activity below). I do want to give you a short bit of exciting news. I am now more than certain that Clean Fiction's Spring Edition 2022 is going to be longer than 100 pages. Sifting through a mammoth amount of emails and submissions from our reviewers this last week, I was shocked to realize that we were most likely going to have more than half the magazine full of reviews and articles. I am current sitting at 62 pages of reviews and articles and I am no where near done. This makes me exceedingly excited! You guys are going to love it!
Don't Forget!
The Book Fan Art Contest voting is in full swing! Voting is FREE and does not require you to enter your name or email address. Clean Fiction contests are meant to be fun! Share your favorites with your friends and family. Encourage them to pick their favorite as well. We had the largest response EVER to our last contest and we can't wait to see how many of you participate in this one! Visit cleanfictionmagazine.com and click on "Vote" or follow this direct link: https://www.sunsetvalleycreations.com...
Voting ends on February 12th so don't wait!
Wishing all of you the best this week!

Cover Art Contest Submissions
For the March 20th Spring Edition, we will be holding another Cover Art Contest for all of you to participate in. This was the contest that had the most entrants and we anticipate it to be a popular contest again. We ask that you stick to CLEAN Cover Art. That means absolutely no shirtless/headless men. For the love of chocolate pudding! Why is a cover like that a fad anyway!?! That goes for shirtless/headless women too, but I think that probably goes without saying...Can a cover DESIGNER participate? Of course. Can an author participate even if they did not design their cover? Yep. Is there a limit on the number of covers that I submit? Please, only send one cover per person/design company. Does it matter what genre the book is? No, unless...see previous comment about shirtlessness. Submissions will begin February 1st and end February 12th. Voting will begin February 13th and go through February 26th. (See our website for the small print) We are limiting the voting to 10 submissions that will be selected by the Clean Fiction staff. Otherwise, the voting page might go on forever. The winner will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card and the other nine voted on covers will be ranked and included in the magazine similarly to what you see on the previous page. The winner will also receive a certificate that they can print out and hang on their wall, book cave, library nook...you get the idea. How do I enter? Simply email CleanFictionMagazine@gmail.com the following: Your Cover Art, Your Name, Name/s of the Cover Artist, Title/Author of the Book (if it is not clearly visible in the image), and an Email Address (for contact purposes).

The Fun Continues!
If you missed the announcement this week on our social media/website, both the "Windows into the Multiverse" writing contest AND the Best Bookstagram Contest have WINNERS!
Let's start with the writing contest: IT WAS A TIE! We had a bunch of wonderful submissions for our "Windows into the Multiverse" writing contest. So many in fact that we couldn't choose just one! The two stories chosen could not be more different, but they both incorporated the image into their writing in a way that set them apart. Both have won the FULL prize ($25 Amazon Gift Card) and will be featured in the Spring Edition!
J. Phillip won with his Science Fiction/Thriller, "Dangerous Trek". He can be found at his website https://bio.fm/jphistudio or on Amazon under "J. Phillip".
Mary Rice won with her Inspirational Fiction story "Through the Window". She can be found at her website MaryRiceBooks.com or on Facebook under "MHRiceBooks".
Next, the Best Bookstagram Contest was won by a landslide victory of 261 votes! Congratulations to Linda Brendle and her Kitty, whose cuteness stole the show for sure. She will also receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card and have her Bookstagram featured in the Spring Edition. You can find her on Twitter under @LindaBrendle.
But Wait! There's More!
Thanks to a slew of last minute entries, voting has begun for the Book Fan Art Contest! There are 7 pieces of art for you to choose from and just like the Best Bookstagram Contest, voting is FREE and does not require you to enter your name or email address. Clean Fiction contests are meant to be fun! Share your favorites with your friends and family. Encourage them to pick their favorite as well. We had the largest response EVER to our last contest and we can't wait to see how many of you participate in this one! Last Call!
OH BOY! There are a lot of last calls this week! The Voting for the Best Bookstagram Contest is coming to a close. The Submissions for Windows into the Multiverse and the Book Fan Art Contest are also closing. Everything is happening
January 31st at Midnight EST
We have strong submissions for the Windows into the Multiverse Contest, but I must admit that I have not received a single submission for the Book Fan Art Contest. That means that this contest will probably be cancelled. Whether it is a combination of the amount of illness that is going around and Winter doldrums, I do not know, but I have secured SOME book fan art for the upcoming edition. I implore you, if you know of a character artist who would like some free advertising, send them my way. I will be happy to promote their business.
Wishing all of you the best this week!

Tell a Friend
Tell a friend about Clean Fiction magazine. The more we grow the community, the more we will be able to build up indie authors and small presses. In doing this, you as a reader will be able to enjoy unique books that are not forced to have that mass market flavor. I have included a social square that you can share.

Keep the Fun Going!
I hope that everyone's week has been as productive and pleasant as mine has! The voting for the "Best Bookstagram Contest" is in full swing. The first day was so popular that the website was glitching. I am sorry to those who had trouble, but if you had problems voting before there should be no problems now. Bookstagrams 1, 4, and 6 are making great gains, but that could change overnight! Voting ends January 31st so don't wait!
Another thing that ends January 31st... is the submission period for the Book Fan Art Contest! I missed mentioning it in my last news bulletin and I am kicking myself. The submissions opened January 16th. The rules can be found below:
For the March 20th Spring Edition, we will be holding another Fan Art Contest for all of you to participate in. This was by far our most anticipated contest and we want to continue the fun! We ask that you stick to Clean BOOK Fan Art, but there is no particular art style you must adhere to. Do you draw anime? Great! Draw a character from your favorite anime. Do you prefer westerns? Wonderful! Desert paintings are great. Are you a character artist by trade? You can participate too! Whether you are drawing at your kitchen table or in a studio, your art is welcome. Submissions will begin January 16th and go through January 31st. Voting will begin February 1st and run through February 12th (See our website for the small print). If you win, you will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card to use on buying books or paints or more art supplies...whatever you want really. To submit your image, simply email CleanFictionMagazine@gmail.com the following: Your Image, Your Name, Title/Author of the Book the Character comes from, Name of Character, an Email Address, and Your Social Media Handle (if you want followers).
I pray that you all have a lovely day and I look forward to chatting with you next week!
This Week's Community Activity:
Windows into the Multiverse
We have received several submissions for this contest already and the competition is heating up for sure! The submissions are all SO GOOD! I encourage those who are working on a submission to bring your A-game, but don't worry too much about perfect editing. We have a proofreader who will look over your work before it would go to print. Good luck everyone! You have until January 31st to send it over.
The painting (as seen in the Winter Edition 2021) is what I prefer to call a “Window”. In a way paintings, photos, and other visual arts are “Windows” into another space. Whether it is the artist’s mind or a recreation of an actual place, these “Windows” allow us to pause for a moment and see someone else’s view. Why the “Multiverse” then? Many authors use paintings, photos, and other visual arts in order to write fantastical stories of different places, times, and planets. When you look at the painting above, where do you go? A quiet planet in the outer rim? A hideaway in the forest of the faere? Another world found in the center of the earth? This “Window” can lead anywhere your imagination can create. So to our March 20th, 2022 Spring Edition along with the image above. You are asked to write a micro-story beginning with “Through the window I saw...” using the painting above as inspiration. The only restriction on your creativity is that you keep your micro-story clean. Though, if you have decided to read this magazine, I would imagine that this would not be at all limiting for you. Submissions will open January 1st, 2022 and end January 31st, 2022. Please keep your submission to 1,000 words or less. Send your micro-story, your name as you would like it to appear, genre of your story, social media handle/website, and an email for contact purposes to CleanFictionMagazine@gmail.com We will not use your micro-stories without your permission and the winner/s will be sent a page/s for approval. Depending on the number of submissions we receive, there will be either winners in several genre categories OR an overall winner. Each winner or the overall winner will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card and an author feature. The winner/s will be decided by the Clean Fiction staff and excerpts may be used for promotional purposes. If there is a tie between two micro-stories, Clean Fiction will have voting to decide the overall winner. Happy Writing!

The First Contest of 2022!
This past week was a good one and the upcoming week is going to be super fun too! The new reviewers now have their own signatures/logos. I am chugging along with laying out page after page of reviews and articles for you to enjoy. I have at least one author interview in the works. Is there an author that you are interested in hearing from? If so, let me know!
For this coming week, we have "The Best Bookstagram" contest getting ready for voting. You still have TWO DAYS to submit a Bookstagram. It is FREE to enter. Then on Sunday, January 16th voting begins. We do not collect your information, just your vote! The community will decide the Bookstagram winner! As of right now we only have 4 entries. I would love to gather some more...hint hint... I KNOW a lot of you take photos of your books. Submit one of your photos and you could win a $25 Amazon Gift Card. All of the Bookstagrams will be printed in the Spring Edition so it would be a fun way to advertise your book or to plug your favorite author. Anyway, I think you get it. I am excited to see what you send!

Windows into the Multiverse
I know that this went out all messed up last week and for that I apologize. I am going to blame it on still being ill. Anywho, here are the edited instructions for entering. There are still a couple of weeks to get your micro-story to us. I am so excited to read what you have written!

The New Year Has Come
To be frank, my two weeks of "vacation" didn't turn out as I planned. I spent the majority of the time away from all of you struggling through Covid along with my family. No need to be alarmed. I am on the upswing now, but some preexisting asthma lead to a very unpleasant experience even after having been vaccinated. I have returned weaker, but healing as I look forward with anticipation to the upcoming edition.
Two contests have begun with the start of this new year. "The Best Bookstagram" contest and "Windows into the Multiverse" a writing contest. Information for the former can be found here: https://www.sunsetvalleycreations.com... . The latter contest's information can be found below. I have already started to receive Bookstagram entries. There is not much time to enter so don't wait!
Despite the rough opening, this year is looking bright and I cannot wait to see what God has in store! Happy Epiphany!
This Week's Community Activity:
Windows into the Multiverse
The painting (see Winter Edition 2021) is what I prefer to call a “Window”. Thankfulness
It is true, your eyes are not deceiving you, Clean Fiction Magazine's Winter Edition earned a #1 New Release in Literary Criticism Reference on Amazon. I was blown away with the number of downloads and Kindle Unlimited reads that have come in over the last month. Currently, we are at 111 downloads/buys/full reads on KDP. This is so exciting and I am feeling extremely blessed by the positive feedback that I have received. We currently have 5 cumulative 5 star ratings, which again is so encouraging.
I would like to thank all of you for your support and for your downloads/purchases/reads. Readers are why we work so hard and building this community has been a pleasure. I am so enjoying sharing that community with you and I am anticipating the next steps on this journey with eagerness!
This Week's Community Activity:
Read - Rate - Review
It is time to return the favor! The magazine is FREE on Kindle Unlimited and very reasonable as an ebook/paperback. If you have read the Winter Edition and like what you see, please, rate and review. If you haven't read the Winter Edition yet, give it a try! The authors and reviewers who are featured spent a lot of time and effort to create wonderful books/reviews for you to read and enjoy. I implore you to give them a read. I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised! Indie publishing isn't the wild west that it used to be.
PS There will be no newsletter for two weeks due to the Christmas holiday and New Years. We are starting January 1st with a BANG and two (count them...TWO) contests. The Best Bookstagram Contest information can be found at our website under "Contest" now, but the "Windows Into the Multiverse" contest is found in the Winter Edition. This writing contest has a submission period that spans the month of January. If you are a writer or a bookstagramer, you will not want to miss your chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card! Feel free to send questions to cleanfictionmagazine@gmail.com

Good and Bad
December is a time of endings and new beginnings. A time that people look forward to and some dread. Along with all of the positives that the process of creating this magazine has brought, there were a lot of negatives as well. When I was called, I knew that I would be putting out two magazines during the worst part of my year. I have seasonal affective disorder which means that in the wintertime I could wake up and cease to be able to function as normal. Usually my brain kicks into "survival mode" in mid-October/November and I don't "wake up" until March. But that is not what happened. Unseasonably warm weather and an adjustment in medications has left me "alert" for the first time in years. The stress of putting out the magazine has caused me to come down with shingles. The Lord used a freak happenstance to pay for the monetary burden of launching Clean Fiction. Give and take. Good and bad. Every part of life is like this, so why am I bothering to mention it? I will let "past me" explain by sharing the dedication from the back of the Winter Edition.
"I would like to dedicate the Winter Edition 2021 to those who have lost their lives or the lives of their family members and friends in the last two years. At this point there is no use in speaking on what has driven us apart during this difficult time. Instead, I dedicate this magazine to what has brought us together. A unified sense of loss. The realization of what is truly important. Reaching out to others with love. Holding each others pain. Lifting up families in prayer. Clasping tight to what is left behind for fear that it will lose its meaning. Your suffering meant something. Means something. I have watched beautiful things come from the darkness that we have faced together. Apart. Lovely things that I want to cherish. So with this dedication I raise my hand to you with the hope that you will reciprocate in kind. A moment to stand together with sorrow in our hearts and hope for the future on our lips."
This Week's Community Activity:
Business Cards & Book Marks
I have had business cards and bookmarks made. If you would like some to share with your family and friends, I will happily mail you some. Simply send your mailing address to CleanFictionMagazine@gmail.com . There will be no charge for this. A Christmas present from me to you.

Did You Say Free?
If your first thought was, "Wait! It isn't Thursday!" You would be correct, but this news is TOO GOOD not to share. I have enrolled the Winter Edition 2021 in KDP Select which means that it is available on Kindle Unlimited AND that I am able to run a FREE Book Promotion. I guess that not being able to put the ebook on B&N does have a sunny side. I have never done a promotion like this before and I am crossing my fingers that there are no problems. I scheduled the ebook to be FREE from December 1-5, 2021.
5 DAYS ONLY!
I am only allowed to make the ebook FREE for 5 days every 90 day cycle. That means that the ebook will return to the $2.99 price after the 5 days and stay that way until March 2022 when I plan to run another 5 Days FREE promotion right before the release of the March 20th, 2022 Spring Edition. In a way, this allows me to fulfill at least part of my original promise, but this deal will not last long so don't wait!
This Week's Community Activity:
Tell EVERYONE!!!
Have your friends and family search "Clean Fiction Magazine" on Amazon or follow this link: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09L8LTLWN This will get you and everyone you know a FREE copy of the Winter Edition 2021 Ebook which is a print replica! Don't miss out! This deal only lasts 5 days and then it disappears!

Thank You
This year has been the year of uncomfortable things. I have put myself out there in ways that I never anticipated. Publishing my debut novel. Cold calling businesses and authors. Throwing myself into a community that I was not sure would accept me. Through it all God has brought people to help me along the way. To encourage me and to remind me that my hopes could be physical instead of ephemeral. So I will use this week's correspondence to thank a few people who have helped me along the way.
First, I would like to thank the Review Team. Laura, Moriah, and Kelly have been enthusiastic about this publication from the beginning and their encouragement helped me through the difficult times. Next, the Launch Team, you guys are the bomb! ( I know....SO 90's) The fact that strangers would be willing to help this publication along was humbling to say the least. Karen needs a shout out for donating her time to proofread the publication. I would also like to thank the bookstores/stores that have been willing to take a chance on Clean Fiction. I am hoping to expand the number of stores who carry it in the future. Keep an eye on the map on the Clean Fiction homepage (www.cleanfictionmagazine.com) to see the most recent carriers. Last and certainly not least, I would like to thank the authors and the readers for without you the pages of this magazine would be empty.
There have been many prayers sent up about this Christian publication and God has pushed me along from the depths of self doubt to a final product. I am humbled and excited to see where this path of His may lead. May God bless you all, and may God bless Clean Fiction.
This Week's Community Activity:
What are you thankful for?
Share a photo or a comment about what you are thankful for on Facebook, Instagram, or Goodreads. Either in the comments of today's post or tag @cleanfiction (Instagram) / @CleanFictionMagazine (Facebook). God has blessed all of us in some way this year and we as His children should shout about it! I know many of you have had it rough, but I am sure there is still a small piece of blessing growing in your life. I can't wait to hear how God has blessed you.
JSYK There will be no newsletter/blog next Thursday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I implore you to shop small this Christmas season. (Prepare yourself for a shameless plug in 3...2...1...) Clean Fiction magazine would be a great way to do that! Why? It allows the reader in your life to enjoy a selection of books by indie authors and small presses. These are the epitome of SMALL businesses and they deserve your support. These authors and publishers work 10x as hard as big companies with millions of advertising dollars. I should know. I'm one of them. If you want books written with passion and perseverance, look no further.
