The Kingmaster (Book Review)
It always makes my day to hear from readers! So many good thoughts in this review of “The Kingmaster.”
I have no memory of acquiring this book.
No, but seriously. I opened my Kindle to read Battlefield Earth, and there it was, at the very top of my virtual bookshelf, implying that I’d downloaded it sometime in the last two weeks.
I have, at best, only a fuzzy recollection of possibly doing so.
More concerning, its title contains the word “Arc.”

The portcullis, the toothed, iron gateway into Castle Veleda, barred Kyen’s way. Two gateguards stood at attention behind it.
“Kyen of Avanna here to see the king,” Kyen told them.
The guard motioned to a another out of sight. The portcullis clanked and began to rise. Its iron bars rose up past his long grave face.
“So glad you’ve come, sir,” he said. “I’m supposing you’ve heard?”
“Heard what?” asked Kyen.
“An assassination attempt has been made on the king,” said the guard.
