Amy is a former programmer turned author after her first trip to Japan in 2017. Now she writes Japanese myth-based urban fantasy to reconnect with the country and culture that captured her heart. She lives with her supportive husband, two wonderful kids, a mellow old cat who adopted the family when he was a tiny stray, and three wily, crazy ferrets in South Dakota.

I visited Japan in October of 2017 and the country, culture, and people captured my heart. The desire to return burns brightly.

About that time I watched a video of a former yakuza (a Japanese mobster) starting his life over and opening an udon noodle restaurant with his friends. It showed how hard it is to not go back to criminal life and to fit into regular society again. That was also the time One Ok Rock's song 'Stand Out Fit In' came out. The song really moved me. I remembered all too well what it was like not fitting in as a kid. Click! I had the basis for a story. Mix that with my love of the kitsune (mythological Japanese fox) and wah-lah!

I started planning and writing on Dec 1, 2018, while I was on the plane to take the lowest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. (Think very basic conversation.) It really helped me fend off the nervous jitters!(less)

Amy and 7 other people liked Ellie Mitchell's review of The Night Circus:
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
"The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern is a fantasy novel that, to me, far exceeds the average reading experience.

Set mainly in London between the years 1873-1903 (focusing on 1890s-early 1900s), we follow the development of the incredible Night Circu" Read more of this review »

“When I reach to pick up the glass pieces, my heart sinks as the distinctive blue-black wave and red maple leaf designs of my irezumi tattoo sleeve show through the transparent wet fabric of my shirt. Despite the deafening silence, the hint of the ink that marks my past wails like a siren, warning all in my vicinity.”
