It's been a blast doing research about this magnificent historic ship,, meeting so many ship aficionados who love the ship, and writing the stories. What is the Real?

I’m sure other writers will identify with this—planning a book launch while in the throes of personal circumstances that cannot be circumvented. When Cooking for Ghosts was released, we had just bought a house in a rural area where the usual economical options for internet connection were non-existent, and spotty cell phone service is […]

“Sometimes, life hits you in the face with a pie. Whatever kind it is, the ingredients will have some good properties for your skin: Cherries have antioxidants, custard has milk, and chocolate has minerals. What this means is that a pie in the face once in a while is not a tragedy, it's a free facial. Wipe it off, admire your skin, and get on with what you were doing.”

“The only thing you should be faking is confidence. If you don't have it yet, pretend that you do. Pretend you're not nervous, pretend you're not scared, and after a while, the pretend part disappears.”
Patricia V. Davis, The Diva Doctrine: 16 Universal Principles Every Woman Needs to Know

“If I had a daughter, here's what I'd tell her:

One day, when you've worked hard for what you want, when people see that you are confident and intelligent and that you recognize your own self-worth, when you take care of yourself, support yourself, and stand up for yourself, that is the day that the world will call you "a cruel and selfish bitch."

It's a tough title to earn and you should be and proud of it.”

“Become a parent. Lose your autonomy, but gain the wondrous superpower of The Magic Kiss that instantly dries tears and makes the pain of boo-boos disappear.”

“Coleridge was a drug addict. Poe was an alcoholic. Marlowe was killed by a man whom he was treacherously trying to stab. Pope took money to keep a woman's name out of a satire, then wrote a piece so that she could still be recognized, anyhow. Chatterton killed himself. Byron was accused of incest. Do you still want to a writer -and if so, why?”

“Doubt gets a bad rap. Doubting doesn't mean you've stopped believing, but that you've started thinking. Sheep doubt nothing. Chances are you'll get further in life by questioning things than by living like something that ends up as dinner and a sweater.”
