Hello there! My name is Jessa and I’m an award winning poet and speculative fiction author. I’m currently going to school for Laboratory Science and use writing fiction to help stay sane. When I’m not writing I’m either hanging out with my cats, building Warhammer 40K minis, or reading a gory book.

"Fantastical." --Amazon Review

If I get stuck drafting, I try to edit something else just to clear my brain. If I'm on deadline and I have to get the words on the page I talk to myself (or my husband) about why I'm stuck. Either the scene is boring or I don't know where the plot is going; I try to pick apart the problem and get back on track.(less)

QuaranCon 2022

QuaranCon is a FREE VIRTUAL Science Fiction and Fantasy writer’s convention that started back in April 2020, shortly after all of our lives got turned upside down by Covid-19.

It was “at” this conference–which was technically home–that I decided to commit to self-publishing my books. The excitement and energy the organizers, moderators, guest authors had about writing and publishing was in

Thankfully, this is something I don't experience too often (my head is constantly churning out more ideas then I have time to jot down)!

When it does, I start by writing a single word, then another, then another and so on. Even if it's nowhere near w See Damien’s answer.

I’d have some of the details worked out in my head, David but similar to you, I tend to just let the story flow out as I’m writing. There might be key scenes I’ve worked out that are pivotal to the overall plot, but 99% of the story came to me as I w See Damien’s answer.

“There were worse things than being locked up in a cage, worse things than losing a father.”
Jessa Forest, Pulling Teeth and Other Stories: A Grimdark Paranormal Fantasy

“Prayers don't stop tanks. I stop tanks."--Vlad”

“They called themselves hunters because hunting was their job.”
Jessa Forest, Pulling Teeth and Other Stories: A Grimdark Paranormal Fantasy

“The demon that you can swallow gives you its power, and the greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.”
Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth

“Twenty-five or thirty words are supposed to be enough in a news bullet to explain either a war or an unusual set of Christmas lights. Bullets are cheap and full of big dramatic pictures. Some bullets are true virtuals that allow people to experience—safely—hurricanes, epidemics, fires, and mass murder. Hell of a kick.”
Octavia E. Butler, Parable of the Talents

“He’d watched as the gaunt man’s servant-creature, that thing made of shadows and jackal skin, had sucked something shimmering from those freshly dead corpses, leaving them with their hearts torn out and their empty eyes glowing red.”
Saladin Ahmed, Throne of the Crescent Moon

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

“I wish that every day was Saturday and every month was October.”
Charmaine J. Forde
