LIAR'S BENCH (Literature & Fiction)
0 chapters   —   updated May 13, 2015 06:25PM
Description: LIAR'S BENCH Spring 2015 Release In the summer of '72, Mudas (Muddy) Summers finds out that Peckinpaw, Kentucky's, century-old secrets tie into yesterday’s sorrows—a town's liar's bench — her mama’s mysterious death, and the brutal lynching of her boyfriend's ancestor. Running through the tale of two Kentucky hangings more than a hundred years apart is the story of Mudas and Bobby finding each other and themselves while forced to grow up fast in a time and place where the KKK is still a power, the South is struggling to find itself, and teens are caught between old and new ways of growing up. "Kim Michele Richardson’s lush, beautifully written debut is set against a Southern backdrop passing uneasily from bigotry and brutality to hope. With its compelling mystery and complex yet relatable heroine, Liar’s Bench is a story of first love, raw courage, and truths that won’t be denied." -Kensington "You'll hear echoes of To Kill A Mockingbird in this haunting coming-of-age story. Beautifully written, atmospheric and intricately plotted, Richardson's debut novel will stay with you long after the last page is turned." - #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Wiggs

“Then I surrendered the innocent heart of my childhood and extended my hand to Satan. I walked into Hell, conversed with demons past, found my stolen tears and painfully wept, tasting those acrid drops. Shaking my fists to the heavens, I questioned my God many times, “I’m so disappointed in you, God. So disappointed,” I sobbed. “You,” I fought to catch my breath, “you forgot to tell the world I was supposed to be a princess, God, a princess! Somebody’s princess. So disappointed, so very . . .”
Kim Michele Richardson, The Unbreakable Child

“I accepted that some things in life could never, and maybe should never be explained.”
