Gripping plot, but sometimes Joe seems to be his own worst enemy. And perhaps that's part of the point.

Once this gets moving it's a darn good page turner - a little over the top in places, but gripping.

I longed for more meat on the bones of this book and wished Jericho had thought more about everything that could go wrong.

If you've read the books this mocks, you'll probably "get" this and find it amusing in a hot mess kind of way.

Lots of interesting setting and environmental information, but the delivery of that seemed too heavy-handed.

Well written and fascinating. It paints a 3D picture - warts and all - of a man obsessed with gambling. It's easy to be drawn to him, yet difficult to like him.

Nasty bad guys?
Check.
Most of the usual good guys?
Check.
Plenty of shots fired?
Check.
Lots of thinking and double-thinking and plans falling through?
Check.
In other words, just what I signed up for.

“You know math isn’t my thing.”
Carolyn J. Rose, No Substitute for Mistakes

“If she thought I’d be much help with math problems, then we already had trouble. Most of what I’d learned in high school and college had long ago departed from my brain.”
Carolyn J. Rose, No Substitute for Mistakes

“What was it with these algebra trains? Was the person who made up problems a railroad buff? Or was there something far more sinister going on? Was he delivering messages about railroad safety? Or did he have a sick desire to witness a crash?”
