I was writing the novel as a dual narrative for several years and then it became increasingly obvious that I really had the makings of two separate stories and that it would be better told that way. So I started with the historical one, which turned into 'Scattered'. I very much want to tell the modern story, as I already had some characters I loved and a good part of the plot. However, as it would be quite a jump from 1882 to the present, I'm going to follow up 'Scattered' with two historical novels spaced apart. I'm not sure how long that will take, but the modern one will be the fourth cab off the rank if all goes according to plan. Or I could write it as a separate stand-alone without having to be connected to the others. I haven't decided yet. Thanks for the question.(less)
