Hello!

I've been writing young adult novels for eight years now and they are my favorite genre -- teenagers are funny, smart, savvy, world-wise and yet still have enough innocence to keep believing in people. When I was a teenager, YA novels helped me through some tough, lonely times. Honestly, they saved my life (although maybe a few of my favorite musicians helped ). Without books, I never would have understood there was a better world just waiting for me both inside my head and after I survived high school.

I love this question! I actually wrote a blog post on it (if that's okay to put here).

Since writing that post, I will also add: doing ANYTHING (stay ethical though, folks) that is outside your pale, beyond your norm, or above your typical threshold for "new" is a good way. It's not about gaining experience to write about. It's about connecting the hemispheres of your brain. Adding some 2's into the mix, maybe a 3, 479 if you've been living in the 0's and 1's world too long...

Just try to see things from the side, think wacky thoughts, and if all else fails, start a new writing project even if you have a book to finish. You have go where the energy is. Good luck!!

A cross between magical realism, historical fiction, and a Raymond Chandler novel, Charlotte and the Demons has a noir feel while showcasing Eason’s seemingly effortless capacity for surprise and wit.

This is tough. I would likely travel to the Dasaharu Empire in my Slaves of Prophecy story, specifically the city of Artisans. I would learn how to craft something, and spend my nights enjoying the company of fellow artisans.
