I think I've read that one at least five times and always find some new little piece of wisdom to remember. I have the trilogy book, too, and have enjoyed all of them. Phillip Keller has a wonderful way of bringing to life the symbolic aspects of Scripture that would have been clear to many in Christ's time on Earth but isn't so clear to us in the 21st century. It definitely brings new meaning to Scripture passages we've read many times.

Thank you for reading my books. So glad you liked them! Hopefully 2016 will bring news of a new release. We'll see what the Lord has for the new year. Merry Christmas to you!(less)

Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the books. I figure there have to be some Harleys in the world somewhere... right?! :) I did enjoy writing his character. I think he needed to be the kind of man he was to be able to put up with Jessilyn! Yes, all three books are on audio, read by the same narrator, Kate Forbes. She does such a phenomenal job interpreting these characters. The Fireflies in December audio book won an Audie award for inspirational fiction, and I definitely believe her reading was a very big part of that achievement. If you continue the series, I truly hope you enjoy the next two books as much. Thanks again for getting in touch. It's always so encouraging to hear from readers like you!(less)

“That light is bright enough to light up a little speck of the night sky so a man can see it a ways away. That's what God expects us to do. We're to be lights in the dark, cold days that are this world. Like fireflies in December.

Jennifer Erin Valent, Fireflies in December

“Daddy didn’t say anything for a minute or so, and then he reached up and caught a firefly as it glowed beside him. “See this light?” he asked me when the firefly lit up his hand.

“Yes’r.”

“Time meandered on without Gemma’s momma and daddy, and it meandered on without Cy fuller and Walt Blevins. . . but those of us left behind viewed life more dearly, felt it more keenly. I’d learned a bit more about God and I’d seen His powerful hands at work. As I was growing, my heart was changing. And the way I figured it, there were lessons learned in those dark days that would help me for years to come.”

“As I sat on the porch on that December day . . . I leaned my head against the rail and sighed deeply. The way I figured it just then, my summer may have been full of bad luck, but my life wasn’t. I figured as far as family went, I was one of the luckiest girls alive.”

“Ain't no way to change the world for the better if you can't stand up for what's right when everyone else is wrong.”

“I’d grown quite fond of the wind since Miss Cleta had taught me the secrets of it. “It’s the breath of God, Jessilyn,” she’d say, lifting her face to greet it. “Just listen to it talkin’ to your soul.”

“Jessilyn, ain't no man can't get someplace he never thought he'd get to. You let enough bad thoughts into your head, you can end up doin' all sorts of things you never thought possible. Otis let evil into his mind and it took over his heart. We best be on our guard and keep our minds on what's right and true so we don't become things we'll regret. His words scared me. I wanted to always be able to trust people, to know that good people stayed good people, but I was realizing all too quickly that the human heart is fragile and needs constant attention. I'd seen enough bleakness in my own heart to know my daddy was speaking the truth. That's why we all need to know Jesus in our hearts, Daddy said. Ain't no one else who can keep watch over our hearts like He can. Ain't no one else who can take the bad and replace it with good.”
