Hi Cameron, it’s good to hear from you. Glad to know you’re also a Hitchcock fan! Thanks for your question.

It’s not easy narrowing down my favourite film from Hitchcock, as I have two. The first would have to be Psycho. I first saw this film when I was a kid, enjoying the horror and suspense to the shocking conclusion. The film revealed to me for the first-time what human beings are capable of, that underneath a veneer of normality, we are all capable of murder and unspeakable acts. I then became fascinated by serial killers and learned that Ed Gein was the inspiration behind Psycho.

The other is Rebecca. This film was the first one to introduce me to psychological suspense. Like Psycho, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and slow build at keeping the audience guessing. The character of Mrs. Danvers helped heighten the tension, revealing a complex, disturbed individual. This film also introduced me to Daphne Du Maurier, which I’m grateful for. There have been numerous re-makes of this book, but nothing compares to Hitchcock’s original, and in my opinion, best version.(less)
