A.K. Vitberg was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and now resides with his wife Janice, near his three adult children, on a two-acre wooded lot in New York State’s Finger Lakes Region. After an award-winning career in marketing and advertising he wrote his debut novel, The King of Kreskin Avenue, reflecting on his coming of age in the turmoil of the 1960’s and its similarities to the turmoil of today.

When not making up stories for his grandchildren or telling his never-ending supply of world class Dad Jokes to his children, you can find him, Collings guitar in hand, flat picking fiddle or swing tunes in local venues or jamming with friends at music festivals all over the Northeast.

I often find myself in a kind of cocoon when I write with the ability to shut out distractions and concentrate.

Of course, that cocoon is only as strong as my grandchildren wanting to play a game with me on my laptop, or my wife reminding me of a chore I’ve been ignoring!

The best part of being a writer after retiring is that I don’t have to call upon my muse to write business folderol!

I’m not sure I’m really qualified to answer this question, as I’m just coming out of the blocks with my debut novel, The King of Kreskin Avenue.

But I can share how I used a three phase approach to becoming an author - creative; production; promotion – with milestones for each phase. With creative and production concluded, I’m turning my attention to promotion which I believe will be as intense and time consuming (if not more) than the other phases.

The creative phase was the most fun, I hired help for production, and I’m enthusiastic about all of the opportunities to promote the King.

My inner curmudgeon really came to life over these past couple of weeks and I concluded that I can’t get no satisfaction.

It started when I saw that one of my favorite all time rock n ’roll bands – The Rolling Stones – are coming to Buffalo this summer. I asked Janice to get tickets as going to their show was the perfect combination birthday and Father’s Day gift, right?

Isaw them in Buffalo i...

A well written ethnic family saga that takes place in Buffalo, NY over 100 years. Great story telling
that jumps between past and present with great attention to moving the story arc towards its dramatic conclusion. Put this book on your read list.
