Sandell Morse’s writing has appeared in in several major literary magazines, including Ascent, Ploughshares, Fourth Genre, Tiferet, the New England Review, Calyx, Solstice, and in the anthologies, Outside Rules, Surviving Crisis, and At the End of Life. She has received a Notable Mention in the Best American Essays 2013, two nominations for the Pushcart Prize, and a nomination for Best of The Net. Her memoir, The Spiral Shell, A French Village Reveals its Secrets of Jewish Resistance in World War II will be published by Schaffner Press April 14, 2020.

Sandell Morse is starting The Art of Cruelty: The Art of Cruelty trusts readers to be familiar with certain artists, film makers, writers. I listened to this book in my car. I recommend reading, so you can reread and flip back. The works of art Nelson examines have cruelty in common, and she looks at each through a lens of cruelty. Often, I felt lost. I wanted Nelson to help me understand what is obviously her brilliance.
