Bryan Strickland, a lifelong Coloradoan, is a man of many talents. He writes, draws, paints, and sings. Well, no, he doesn't really sing; though he loves music and plays violin and guitar. Writing is his passion and focus. He is a storyteller, a creator of worlds, a lover of characters, and a crafter of memorable scenes and vivid descriptions. He is a student and lover of words; particularly those grandiose and archaic.

If writer's block occurs I either try free writing exercises to get my mind working around the issue or I go to work on another project, play music, draw, etc. Creativity usually comes from the subconscious, thus focusing intently with the rational part of our minds will actually chase away those creative thoughts.
It may seem counter intuitive, but often taking your waking mind off the problem for a short while allows your subconscious to consider the issue more freely. Same works if you are stuck on a problem at work or in a relationship. That is why the advice to go for a walk or take a break is offered so often, because that is how we creatively work through issues; by not concentrating upon them.(less)

I wanted to wish everyone a happy and beneficial new year!





As with all past holidays, this one has been a torrent of activity that has left me with little time to post. With family trips and visits, having the kids home for weeks and then getting them back to school, and the hustle and bustle of the holidays; I’m just now getting my feet back under me.
