Dr. Sheelwant Patel, pen name P. Sheelwant, has been an insurance seller, a forester, an environmentalist, and a researcher. He has climbed the Himalayas, stalked killer elephants in jungles, and halted in many a haunted halting house in the hilly Himalayan wilderness. He has come across many an apparition, later to be found out to be funny aural hallucinations. Yet, he can’t stop his hair from rising at their ends if he bumps in close proximity of a wall lizard!

A docudrama based on his narrative about a devout Muslim’s intense love for elephant, a living deity of Hindus, has won a national award for the best documentary on environment conservation.

P. Sheelwant The best thing about being a writer is not to worry how to pass the time, rather to worry how to match your chores to time.

No sooner had I reached my village than Nathan came to meet me. Nathan was the one, I was certain, I would see. He had grown roots in the village. Nathan knew all men by their first names in nearly fifty villages around ours. Be it a marriage making, a business with a bank, or advice for medical care, Nathan was always there to guide them.

The Foe Within by P. Sheelwant
“… Why do you think monkeys don’t let the peanuts go off their fists … to freedom? … Monkey’s self-image of perching high in the crown, munching on fisted peanuts, has already enchained him before the hunter does. …”

“… Could I have missed them more? What a fool I had been while they walked and talked and lived …”
P. Sheelwant, The Foe Within

“… Poor little darling … Only if I had known some way to tell you Abdul’s opinion of you, without hurting you, I would have told you. It may break your heart but stop you from breaking up, that is.”
P. Sheelwant, The Foe Within

“… Even if I knew the date on which they were departing for Singapore, I hadn't come to see them off at the airport because, I knew, Dad wouldn't approve of it. I was in such a jam, still am...”

P. Sheelwant, The Foe Within

“… Had Dad not thrown me out … for pursuing what I liked, and more so, for not pursuing what he liked, I could have probably said … . But as of now, I can’t. I know my conscience wouldn’t ever let me rest in peace, if I did.”
P. Sheelwant, The Foe Within

“… This tennis, this makes me insane, I just can’t help it.”
P. Sheelwant, The Foe Within

“… He was shouting all along, ‘so people want to make me regret’, and then came his full-throated war cry as if a triumphant cannibal was dragging his vanquished, and wriggling, enemy to cook for a communal feast…”
