RJ Hervey is a fiction author and freelance editor based in the Pacific Northwest, where he lives with his too-good-for-him wife, two dogs, and a disinterested cat. He graduated from the University of Washington, then jumped into exciting opportunities with creative groups and literary agencies in the Seattle area. Since then, he has published several short stories in literary arts journals and collaborated in a series of indie films and animation projects.

A novelist at heart, Hervey spends his time writing what he most likes to read – historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. His best days are spent at the keyboard, and his favorite nights curled up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and a good book.

Short answer? By whatever means necessary.

I've heard of writers that broke through a block by only writing in taxi cabs, or by tackling a problem at 4 in the morning. It sounds silly, but I've had stretches where I did my best writing on airplanes.

Specifically in regards to writer's block though, I usually get through it by stepping away from the keyboard and picking up a pen. Something about slowing down to write longhand usually helps me see a scene from a different angle, and usually that's enough to get through a block.(less)

Great read! Stylistically, it felt like historical fiction, and that's where the narrative really shone. Some bits felt rushed, and the language might have been a touch inflated in the first few paragraphs, but overall it was a great read!
