Happy Book Birthday!

I'm thrilled to announce the birth of my newest book, The Twelve Days to Christmas!

She arrived on 11th October, 2012 at 12.01am after a fairly easy labour, weighing in at 120 pages. Author and book are doing fine and her big sisters, Single in the City and Misfortune Cookie, can't wait to welcome her into the family.

Thank you, friends and fans, for all your support. Here she is ... I

First, apologies to Dire Straights for badly adapting their fine song. Second, apologies to all of you who now have those lyrics running around your head...

There's less than one month to go till the official launch of The Twelve Days to Christmas, and I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported my writing career over the past decade. You've bought

We go together like peanut butter and jelly

I was just passing the local school on my way back from a jog. All right, all right, I didn't jog the whole way, but that's not the point.

I was passing the school, like I said. The school children were outside, jogging around the playground. As I got close I heard one boy say, with obvious concern: "Come on, he's going to shout at you if you don't hurry up."

Time to take off the training wheels?

In a little while I'll start writing my 8th book. This is always the most exciting time in the writing process for me. The characters are new and I don't yet know how they'll behave. The storyline and settings are fresh, full of surprises that I can't yet anticipate.

Labor of Love!

We love our readers, and that's a fact. So a group of us writers are coming together to say a big thank you to everyone.

For four days over the US Labor Day weekend, we are offering our books for 99¢ to say a huge thank
you to all the readers who’ve supported us over the years. Elle Lothlorien,
who has coordinated this labor of love, says, “We’ve had such amazing
support from readers over

Christmas is coming early

I'm already in the Christmas spirit (geez, I hope I don't peak too soon!) and here's why... I'm thrilled to introduce you to my upcoming Christmas novella, which will be released on 11th October! What do you think of the cover?

What if his proposal had an expiration date?

Indie writers and traditionals - please can we call a truce?

I was interested to read a few blog posts from self-published writers in response to Sue Grafton's comments in a Louisville, KY, online article last week. When I say "interested", I mean spitting mad. These bloggers, with varying levels of foul language and grammatical errors, have attacked Grafton over her comments. The offense taken at Ms Grafton's remarks seem to centre around these quotes:

KDP Select and the Compulsion to Hoard

Like many writers, I've put my book into Amazon's KDP Select programme. This lets Amazon Prime members download it for free, and it lets me choose up to 5 days to make the book free worldwide to everyone.

My pen-named book, Little Sacrifices, is in the middle of its last two free days, and I've been thinking about my decision to put it into KDP Select.

I didn't do any marketing or

Cash-for-reviews: thanks, we don't want them

Now that the cash-for-reviews hubbub has died down a bit, I wanted to bring together the opinions of the more than 6,000 of you who read the original article.

What do we think? Without wishing to speak for the entire book community, it's clear from the blog comments and tweets that at least 6,000 of us find the idea of book blogs charging for reviews distasteful. But there are many nuances

Should bloggers charge for reviews?

A book review blog offered me a "favorable/good or even excellent review" in exchange for $95. I said no, thanks, and when I exposed their practices, they threatened to sue me and ruin my reputation amongst reviewers.

This is the original post that appeared on July 16th. The name of the blog has been redacted, at their "request". More details about that request are included at the end of the
