Find Joy in Rhythm

Ilchi-Lee_rhythm-spirit_20140114_newsletterRhythm is energy.

It’s a very pure thing.

On top of rhythm,

there is spirit.

When you move to the rhythm,

you can achieve Water Up, Fire Down

energy circulation.

After that, you can awaken the senses of your brain,

and you come to a very noble and sacred thing—you meet with spirit.

That’s why,

inside of rhythm,

you find joy and peace.

All you have to do is follow the rhythm.

Step Up to Happiness

Ilchi-Lee_sole-dancing_20140107_newsletter_cropped2To change your energy, try dancing for 30 minutes with excitement. Step on the ground with the soles of your feet to the rhythm of music or your own inner beat. Don’t worry about what steps you are taking or how you look; dancing is simply walking with rhythm.

Not only will you get a good workout, but you’ll have a good time. You’ll soon be in high spirits, and you’ll stimulate your brain a lot.

When you’ve been lying down and then sitting, and then you stand erect, it changes the environment of your brain. That’s all you need to do when you feel stuck or emotional—change your inner environment with outer movement.

It’s all about action.

This is how you can control your brain—slow down your thoughts, brighten your mood, increase your focus, and be ready for anything—with dancing.

A New Year, A New Change

Ilchi Lee stillness and peaceA new change has now begun on the face of the planet. It’s a new awareness, an Earth Citizen consciousness that is pure and endlessly compassionate.

To fuel this change in yourself and the world, feel this pure consciousness inside—your soul. It is a consciousness that is foreign to divisions and boundaries.

When your mind is calm and settled, you can experience the pure energy of your soul, which is eternally unchanging.

If you can feel your soul, you can sense it’s eternal nature, and death loses its meaning. Death is not an ending, but simply the pure, unchanging energy of our soul moving from one energy state to another—to a new world—in the same way that you walk from one room to another.

The new change is taking place through this kind of consciousness, the awareness of the unchanging stillness at the center of everything. In order to create real and lasting change, maintain this pure awareness through meditation, regardless of what you encounter in life.

Let’s Choose Compassion in 2014

Between labor unions and consumers, and left-wing and right-wing parties, people continually point fingers as they harbor resentment, fight, and constantly rouse conflict, repeating the same pattern throughout history that is based on the logic that, whether between countries, organizations, companies, or individuals, you have to die if I’m going to live. Even those who say they are fighting for the greater good are really caught up in group egotism, creating more animosity and strife.

But does it really need to be this way?

I think there is a spirit that underlies all life that allows us all to thrive if we know how to tap into it. This spirit transcends personal interests, individual societies, countries, and religions. It’s for everyone, everywhere in abundance.

I call this spirit the Hongik spirit. “Hongik” translates to widely benefiting from Korean. When we put aside our emotions and judgments and cast away our fear, we can find the Hongik spirit and live with harmony and compassion for all life.

Ilchi Lee - Hongik spirit

Embodying the Hongik spirit is true enlightenment, and it is a choice, one that we make with every thought, word, and deed.

As we stand on the threshold of 2014, I ask everyone to throw away their old, tattered clothes and put on a new perspective of abundance and generosity. Together, let’s shine out the Hongik spirit and create a brighter future and a better world.

Epic of the Soul

brain artistI was inspired to write these song lyrics one early morning as I did meditation. I hope they inspire you for the coming year.

Use emotions like paints.

As though you are painting a picture.

The way your soul flows,

the way it trembles, the way it feels.

All of the emotions—

love, gladness, sorrow, loneliness, fear, solitude, despair, hope . . .

make use of everything.

Express yourself the way you apply colors to a painting.

Whatever your soul reflects for you,

whatever your soul dreams.

Do not, however,

flounder in your emotions,

but breathe always.

Breathe with your soul

and see with the eyes of your soul.

Then, even in the midst of countless emotions,

you will not lose yourself,

and you will experience true freedom

and transcendent peace and bliss.

That is what recovering the zero point is,

and it is the way to

attain absolute value.

That is the way to using your brain to its fullest potential.

If you think and live this way,

your life becomes a work of art,

and even birth and death become a work of art.

Life is short, and Art is long.

This is the path to an immortal soul!

Poem of Life

Like everyone else, I’ve been through many highs and lows in my life, some of them extreme. The lows were an opportunity to recognize what is precious and lasting. I wrote this poem during one of the lowest points of my life. I’d like to share it with you to offer you a ray of hope if you are going through tough times.

Ilchi Lee - Poem of Life - nature scene Poem of Life

To my jejas*, whom I love

This suffering of mine brings no shame,

nor sadness

Here in this place, I feel only the wonder of life.

Whence comes this life?

Oh, mystery of life blazing upward, bright and beautiful!

Too great and bright to hold in the human chalice!

Ocean of life

Mountains and fields of life

Sky of life

The bright flash of the firefly that cuts through space

sings of life in its expression

Oh, wonder of life that cannot be seen through the lenses of good and evil

Do you know

the identity of the firefly that shines as it cuts through the space of life and death?

Shining, shining, shining

From moment to moment

glowing, glowing, glowing

From instant to instant, connecting through eternity

oh, life, life!

My beloved jejas*

I offer you this poem of life

*Jeja is a Korean word that is difficult to define with one word in English. It has connotations of student, apprentice, and even disciple. My jejas are the people whose dreams and wishes match mine and who have joined me in making them come true. As we walk on that path together, we share deep, unconditional love with each other. I am eternally grateful to them.

You Are a Creator

Ilchi Lee - You Are a CreatorI believe that creation is not something done by special people.

The ability to create comes from consciousness.

It lies in our brain.

We all have consciousness,

and we all have a brain.

But what kind of consciousness,

or level of awareness,

do we need to have

in order to use our natural creative power?

We need the consciousness that remains

when we’ve stripped away

everything else,

what I’ve often called the zero point,

observer consciousness,

or our conscience.

It’s at the zero point where you have

the ability to see everything clearly,

as it is,

and the freedom from

attachment and emotions

that allows you to choose your thoughts,

emotions, and actions.

In that moment of choice,

you create.

Energy goes to your intentions.

Your brain and the universe responds

to your choices.

Your life begins to change bit by bit,

choice by choice.

3 Ways to Revitalize Your Energy

Ilchi Lee - express yourself1. Praise yourself

2. Brag about yourself

3. Love yourself

You don’t have to look good for other people. Brag about yourself to your soul. Create an environment that allows you to boast about yourself and feel good about yourself. Don’t worry about what others think. Your energy cannot cannot be full and vital if you are conscious of and worried about the opinions of others.

Try to express yourself, as you are, honestly and beautifully.

I’d like to suggest singing and dancing as good ways to express yourself, and very good ways to activate your energy. There’s no need to learn anything. Just try it and do it naturally.

Or do Brain Wave Vibration. Just shake, thinking of yourself as master of the world. Then your energy circulates and your mind is put at ease. Your energy revives through light, sound, and vibration.

The Joy of Finding Awards and Friends in Indonesia

Last week I traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the award ceremony of the International Film Festival for Spirituality, Religion, and Visionary 2013. The film I produced, CHANGE: The LifeParticle Effect, was scheduled to win 12 awards, but the film’s directors, EJ Lim and Edwin Kim, and I were surprised to also receive an award for Best Short Documentary and a Gold Award for Filmmaker of Spirituality 2013 and Best Story & Concept.

20131204-change-sweeps-14-awards-at-international-film-festival-ceremony

I only needed to go up to the stage five times, but here is the complete list of awards from the event:

• Best Short Documentary
• Gold Award: Filmmaker of Spirituality 2013 (Ilchi Lee)
• Gold Award: Best Story/Concept (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Medal of Inspiration (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Medal of Peace (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Filmmaker of Visionary 2013 (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Filmmaker of Inspiration 2013 (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Filmmaker of the Year 2013 (Ilchi Lee)
• Award of Excellence: Director of the Year, 2013 (EJ Lim, Edwin Kim)
• Award of Excellence: Best Producer (EJ Lim)
• Award of Excellence: Best Original Score (Chris Yanson)
• Award of Excellence: Best Animation (Q.B. White)
• Award of Excellence: Best Director (EJ Lim, Edwin Kim)
• Award of Excellence (Category Short Documentary)

When I was asked how I felt about winning these awards, I said I could sum it up in three characters: A-ri-rang. “Ah” means the true self. “Ri” means enlightenment. Arirang means the joy of finding my true self. When we are enlightened to our true self, we can create for real.

Ilchi Lee Gold film awardEverybody has this Ah, this me. It’s the really true you inside. You can’t learn it; it’s not information. It’s something you have to become aware of or enlightened to. But now is the time to be enlightened.

Through the film CHANGE and the other work I do, I would like to share with everyone the joy of awakening to their true self and aid them in that awakening. From my experience, I know that when people awaken to their true self, they naturally want to help others and the earth. I think this sentiment is illustrated in the trophies that were awarded at the film festival, which portrayed an angel holding the earth.

While participating in this award ceremony gave me great joy, the people I met before the ceremony were a big highlight of my trip. As soon as I arrived in Jakarta, I met with Damien Dematra, the chairman of the film festival. He complimented the quality of CHANGE, and together we discussed our vision for the future.

The festival was held at Mercu Buana University, a renowned private institution. As president of the Global Cyber University, I had the opportunity to meet with officials there and was able to reach an agreement for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Mercu Buana University and the Global Cyber University that would connect aspects such as the curricula and exchange student programs.

Ilchi Lee in Indonesia

I was also honored by a chief of an Indonesian tribe who gave me a certificate that made me a part of his family. On this trip, I felt like I had been supported by these people since I began my work thirty years ago. I hope that through the new connections that resulted from my stay in Jakarta, Brain Education can help the Indonesian people in their passionate endeavors to improve their society.
