Igniting a Spark of Enlightenment in New Zealand
I’m in New Zealand once again building up a retreat center here. We’ve had several groups from Korea come so far, and with each group we’ve added new experiences and new construction on the property.
Last December, we welcomed the final group of 2014 for what we’re calling the Spark Meditation Tour. They were met with three new parks: Heaven Park, Earth Park, and Human Park—meditation sites with wooden platforms in special areas. The parks are places where you can send away bad energy and receive good energy.
At these parks, I lectured and guided the participants in meditation with kawakawa leaves and solar energy—two means of natural healing. Kawakawa trees are a traditional medicinal plant of the Maori that has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. By meditating with the abundant energy from the sun, we can warm our bodies and improve our bodies’ natural healing ability.
This group was the first group to pick kawakawa leaves themselves. They spent time in the clear New Zealand air picking 1000 leaves each, which grow abundantly on the property. While they were picking the kawakawa leaves, they stuck one on their forehead and held one in their mouths, instantly achieving healthy Water Up Fire Down energy circulation in their body and naturally experiencing oneness with nature. One member who had chronic headaches experienced the headache disappearing completely from picking kawakawa leaves.
We also built seven chakra swings along the river where visitors can cleanse and refill the energy in each of their seven chakras.
From their experience, the participants discovered that opening your heart and mind and receiving good energy does not necessarily require special techniques or deep meditation. Besides immersing yourself in nature, you can do it with simple acts of love and devotion. This tour group and I exchanged our devotion to each other and opened each other. They sang the traditional Korean song “Arirang” and the song “Ilshim (One Mind)” for me, and I made them a hearty soup with chicken, bone broth, and eel that I had caught the previous day.
The beginning of your value is the heart and mind. When your face becomes brighter, it means your heart is alive. If your heart is alive, everything is alive. Enlightenment just comes.
Giving energy to each participant individually, I asked them, “What is your dream?” Knowing your dream comes from enlightenment.
But confidence, the power to convey enlightenment, requires training and discipline. People who have encountered a special connection of enlightenment then need to begin training themselves to live and communicate it. The Spark Meditation Tour not only facilitated enlightenment, but helped people develop the power to live it.
With each training session on this meditation tour, the participants went deeper inside themselves and felt their true self and the meaning of their existence. This was their enlightenment. They received healing and were able to feel Mother Earth, and through a message that was clearer and more specific than ever, they came to know what they needed to do to make a beautiful world in which everyone is happy.

It’s Time to Choose
Thirty years ago, in answer to my question, “What am I to do with this enlightenment?” I had a vision of two futures for humanity. In one, the Earth was united by peace and co-existence. In the other, the Earth was completely destroyed by war and environmental pollution.I resolved then that I would awaken the Hongik spirit in each and every person’s heart so that the enlightenment I’d discovered could blossom in the world.
Each year, each day, and each moment, I make that choice anew. Whenever I am tired, it calls me forward and fuels my life.
What will you do? If you believe you can do anything, what will you choose? Choose now, from your heart of hearts—from your soul.
Great courage is needed for that. You have to accept your choice though it fills your body with fear.
Do not believe in yourself or a better world; instead, be enlightened to your true nature and all its potential. Be enlightened, and take action.
I send infinite blessings to you for the new year.

Energy Basics of Life
Ultimately, we, as beings, are not separate from the life energy of the universe. Just as every life form in the world is, human beings are also undergoing ceaseless exchange with the life energy of the universe as they generate the phenomena of life. You could say that, beyond the dimension of the physical body that can be seen with the eyes, your body exists as an energy body that is endlessly vibrating. Although the energy body is not easily visible to the physical eye, energy is circulating around the 12 meridians, approximately 360 major energy points, and 7 chakras. In the trillions of cells of the human body, countless elementary particles are making tiny vibrations. All such things comprise the energetic phenomena and flow of the human body.
Energy flow and the phenomena that result are generated naturally, even if we’re not necessarily conscious of it. But what really matters is that we are able to consciously change and amplify the energetic phenomena of the human body.
All you have to do is open your mind and heart and accept the powerful energy that’s already traveling through your body like a radio tuning into a particular frequency. We all have a frequency, and you can choose the frequency that you tune into based on what you want to achieve. Do you have an infection you want to remove or emotions you want to release? Consciously receive and direct the type of energy circuit for that into you. Even without seeing or knowing what a specific circuit is like, merely by stating the intention in your mind that you will receive all of the energy circuits you need for a specific purpose, they will come into you.
Then observe the physical, mental, and emotional effects they generate as the circuits penetrate specific parts of your body at a fast speed. Cold energy may leave your body, or you can feel prickly sensations, or you may even feel a strong sense of heat.
Depending on how strong the effect of the circuits becomes, subtle or very strong vibrations may arise in your body. Don’t try to suppress them, and just entrust your body to the vibration. Through that process, a natural healing phenomenon occurs in which the stagnant energy and cold energy that was stuck in your body will go out automatically.
The waves that flow through your body can come in as a vertical line, or they can enter by wrapping around you or going into you at different angles. You can direct circuits to the places you need them most and even send them outside of your body anywhere you want.
The greater the strength of your mind, the more rapidly energy will rotate in and through you, clearing and charging your body that much more quickly. With repeated practice, your focus will improve, and you’ll be able to utilize consciously the life energy of the universe that creates all phenomena.

Let Us All Be Happy
Each of us deserves to be happy.Everyone is so lovable. We all have divine spirit and joy inside of us.
That’s why I wish for everyone to be happy. My hope and dream, my wish is for all people to be happy.
The kind of happiness I wish for is the happiness of Heaven and Earth. It’s the joy you cannot find by searching outside of yourself. It is a complete ecstasy, a love that will not hurt anyone, that cannot feel jealous of anyone, that never can become corrupt, and where there is no victim consciousness or guilt.
If we can all just achieve this, then I am willing to do anything. This is the heart and mind of the creator inside all of us.

Life Is a Canvas
Life is like a canvas. Some people want to fill their canvas with a picture, but their canvas is too small. Others can’t completely fill it.
Will you move actively, creatively to completely fill the canvas of your life, or will you fail to fill it, leaving a lot of empty spaces before you go on your way?
That’s why having a vision is important. The canvas of life is small for those who have a vision. People with a vision are happy.
What kind of picture are you drawing on your canvas right now, and how diligently are you filling it?

Plug Your Brain into the Energy of Life
We are always connected with the great life energy of the cosmos. It always exists within us; it makes up our soul. However, life energy is often asleep inside us because the brain is ordinarily ignoring it. It’s busy executing the thoughts of the “self,” of the ego, rather than connecting with the energy of life. The ego creates division, disconnection, and categorization in its effort to navigate the world and keep us alive. If we get too caught up in it and become closed off from the energy of life, it’s easy to become dissatisfied or depressed.
That’s because our brain expresses the nature of whatever energy is the strongest in a given moment. When thinking ceases, the energy of life grows stronger, so the brain runs on that energy instead. Connected to the energy of life, our brain expresses the luminous mindset of our inner soul. Then we experience deep emotion, peace, and love.
To keep your brain plugged into the energy of life throughout the day, make a clear goal that comes from your soul and focus on it. Such a goal will help you overcome the pull of your ego. Then, in the energy of life, your brain will move without resistance as your soul intends.

Want Enlightenment? Raise Your Temperature with Concentration
What is enlightenment? It’s temperature. This is how you can express enlightenment in terms of medicine and science. Health, happiness and peace are also temperature. Not a lot of people know about temperature, however.
Your body has a narrow range of temperature at which it stays healthy. It also fluctuates within that range depending on the external conditions, but also our internal environment. For example, when we lonely or depressed, our body temperature tends to be at the lower end of the normal spectrum. But, if you do a physical exercise, such as Toe Tapping, you raise your temperature. All kinds of physiological reactions happen then that affect your mind and emotions. You produce more of the hormones and neurotransmitters that make your body function. If you do this diligently, the loneliness disappears.
There’s a method for raising your body temperature and making your body and mind healthier and happier that’s much quicker than exercise, although, of course, exercising is still beneficial. This method is based on the human ability to concentrate.
Your destiny changes depending on what you focus on and what you choose. What happens when you angle a magnifying glass toward the sun? It becomes hot because it focuses on a single point and gathers the sun’s rays. Your mind is also a lens that focuses energy and causes change.
Try holding up your right pointer finger and focusing on your fingertip. Look at your fingertip. With enough focus, you will be able to see an aura, or a haze, at the tip of your finger. The tip of your finger will also become hot.
Now, spread both of your hands out, and straighten your spine. Again, focus on your fingertips. Can you feel heat there?
Now imagine the sun’s energy encapsulating your entire body. The sun’s energy enters your body by connecting at the fingertips. Your body vibrates and trembles as your body becomes hot, and your breathing becomes heavy. The fat stored in your body burns.
We all have the capability to focus, we just need to activate it. You can also strengthen it; it’s like shouting with your mind. Try shouting with your mind.
Changes occur in your autonomic nervous system. Your concentration will flood your body with energy that can vibrate and transform your body’s entire energy into the state of happiness—from a lower temperature to the temperature of happiness.
After one minute, you can be completely recharged.
Finally, take three deep breaths.
What changes did you feel in your body, mind, and emotions from this brief meditation?
Remember, if you just think it, it will happen. That’s the power of your ability to concentrate. With your thoughts, you can raise your temperature, your concentration, and everything else.
By taking some time to focus on your body, you can get to know your entire body and its full capacity. You need to know your whole body in order to use all of its functionality. Then with only your focus you can improve your health and happiness.

Communication for Happiness
Enlightenment, or completion of the soul, are not found somewhere far off, but in our daily lives, within human relationships. What’s very important for good relationships is communication. To communicate well, you must be connected with the other person, and trust has to develop. You should think of the other person first, instead of only about your own position. Check how you convey information in your linguistic habits and methods of expression. How good have you been making people feel? Can they be open to you?
Connecting with people heart-to-heart is very simple. Communication can happen when your mind is very pure and peaceful. In that state, you can give and receive energy, feel the other person’s mind, and feel your own mind. That’s communication. That’s healing.
To do that, make your mind flexible, immediately, and without missing the right time, say these three things: “Thank you,” “I’m sorry,” and “Help me.” These three come out of honesty, and they require courage.
Those who commune well with the brains around them are happy.

Hongi for Hongik: Making Maori Connections
Through a chance meeting with a Maori tribal leader, I was fortunate to get an opportunity to give a lecture on Brain Education at a Maori school in New Zealand. I was touched by the welcome ceremony the principal, teachers, and students held for me. They sang a song and played the guitar, and gave a welcoming greeting.
At the time, the students gazed at me with such beautiful light in their eyes, like shining stars. I could feel their souls shining.
I also responded in kind with song as I spoke to them about the connection between New Zealand and South Korea and opened their hearts. I told them how New Zealand helped Korea during the Korean War and about the similarity between the Hongik culture of Korea and the traditional hongi greeting of the Maori tribe. The Maori have a spirit and philosophy from their ancestors that everything in the world is one, which is expressed when they greet each other by touching their noses and breathing together when they’re glad to see each other and feel thankful. I let them know that traditionally in Korea as well, there is a spirit and philosophy that heaven, earth, and human are one. This is the Hongik spirit. I told them how I feel that the Hongik spirit and the Maori spirit are one. The Maori students and teachers were very glad and resonated with that deeply. Then, I expressed my heart to all of the students and teachers through the hongi greeting.
We also had time for a video about Brain Education and a lecture about Dahn Taekwondo. The staff who went with me demonstrated Dahn Taekwondo, and I told them that Dahn Taekwondo isn’t just for being a good fighter or for self-defense. It’s a martial art for developing self-confidence and practicing respect for yourself and others. It is one part of Brain Education that is necessary for developing creativity through self-development. They watched with a look of fascination and eagerness in their eyes. After we finished, about 50 students said that they wanted to learn Dahn Taekwondo, so now we’ll give them the opportunity to take classes once a week.
I was so grateful for this opportunity to connect with these bright youth. While I’m working in New Zealand, I keep moving with the intention of achieving one new creation each day. I act with the mentality that, if we can just get the Hongik dream to take root in New Zealand, I’ll do whatever it takes and run wherever I need to. When I choose with that mindset and get moving, everything proceeds at the speed of light. The opportunities present themselves so fast that it amazes me. If my footsteps can be helpful to others and my vision, I can run faster, as much as it takes.
