Sumaiya Ahmed is a British born and raised twenty something year old author, studying English Literature with Creative Writing.

She owns a blog, where she discusses and reviews books, talks about food and updates her readers on what she's currently up to. LOST AND FOUND is her first poetry collection.

She enjoys drinking tea, going out for brunch and dreaming about meeting Chris Hemsworth. And, of course, re-watching every single episode of Friends (but she can never bring herself to watch The Last One again).

Everything that happened—when I was a child, in my teens, falling completely and wholeheartedly in love—have all had such an impact on me. Sometimes when I thought about it all, I was breathless with shock and not entirely sure how to deal with it all. With all the memories. The childhood trauma had affected me, and to this day I am still furious. It is something that will never leave me. To deal with it all, to deal with my depression and anxiety that I was diagnosed with late last year, I turned to writing poems. These poems turned into a collection, which became Lost and Found. The ideas for it are all from my own life. Everything I went through. Everything I survived. Everything I want to be able to say to my mother but I never can.(less)

More of Sumaiya's books…
“her dream was dipped in honey;
of a girl with hair like fire
and eyes like the night sky”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“Maybe that’s why I started thinking that my sexuality or virginity was where all my worth and honour lay. For a while, I tried to see myself as something maybe a little more than just a girl with a tragic back story. For some time, I was waiting to be saved and I was waiting for some prince charming to come and rescue me like in the movies, take me from this house I am trapped in, where I was suffocating on the traditions and expectations”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Reality

“i was brought into this world
from a prayer, palms together,
but never once did you expect me
to be your biggest regret.”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Reality

“the taste of fine-tuned rage spilling out of a mouth turned up in painted smiles pretend smiles faked smiles”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“when night falls, i am picturing my will be glories”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“pleas for forgiveness dropping like sweat or red rain or tears from the monster’s mouth and the devil laughs scathingly “i did not control you” and misbahas become nooses throwing the world into fire and fog smears the streets”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“this is a world where our pain is what god eats
religion is nothing but deceit
god is a cheat (if he even exists)”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“it’s a constant struggle
between what i want and what i should do
in the name of izzat and haya.”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found
