Everything that happened—when I was a child, in my teens, falling completely and wholeheartedly in love—have all had such an impact on me. Sometimes when I thought about it all, I was breathless with shock and not entirely sure how to deal with it all. With all the memories. The childhood trauma had affected me, and to this day I am still furious. It is something that will never leave me. To deal with it all, to deal with my depression and anxiety that I was diagnosed with late last year, I turned to writing poems. These poems turned into a collection, which became Lost and Found. The ideas for it are all from my own life. Everything I went through. Everything I survived. Everything I want to be able to say to my mother but I never can.(less)

Mind your own business, bruv

You know, the funny thing about the South Asian community is that nobody knows how to mind their own business or keep their mouths shut. It’s not a hard concept to understand so I’m not entirely sure why they find it so difficult. For people who pride themselves on familial bonds, a close-knit community and [...]

All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
“No matter how much you love someone—the capacity of that love is meaningless if it outweighs your capacity to forgive.”

All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover
“And I promise . . . I swear . . . that if you choose to end things between us, I will love you more as you’re walking out the door than on the day you walked down the aisle. I hope you choose the road that will make you the happiest. Even if it’s not a choice I’ll love, I will still always love you. Whether I’m a part of your life or not. You deserve happiness more than anyone I know. I love you.”

“i am a girl with the devil
in my eyes and hades as my lover, dancing our way to an underworld,
where he pins me against
the wall and fingers out of me
a silent confession”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“her dream was dipped in honey;
of a girl with hair like fire
and eyes like the night sky”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“Maybe that’s why I started thinking that my sexuality or virginity was where all my worth and honour lay. For a while, I tried to see myself as something maybe a little more than just a girl with a tragic back story. For some time, I was waiting to be saved and I was waiting for some prince charming to come and rescue me like in the movies, take me from this house I am trapped in, where I was suffocating on the traditions and expectations”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Reality

“the taste of fine-tuned rage spilling out of a mouth turned up in painted smiles pretend smiles faked smiles”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“when night falls, i am picturing my will be glories”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“pleas for forgiveness dropping like sweat or red rain or tears from the monster’s mouth and the devil laughs scathingly “i did not control you” and misbahas become nooses throwing the world into fire and fog smears the streets”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“this is a world where our pain is what god eats
religion is nothing but deceit
god is a cheat (if he even exists)”
Sumaiya Ahmed, Lost and Found

“it’s a constant struggle
between what i want and what i should do
in the name of izzat and haya.”
