But whenever I sat down to do so, my mind would go blank, much the way those who want to meditate find their head suddenly fills with to-do lists. And it's easy to push it aside for more pressing things.

I wrote a lot for our business, but it wasn't until I finally committed to writing Little Buggers! that I realised how much I enjoyed it. And finding ways to inject a bit a humour to something as upsetting as an insect infestation gave me confidence to try writing a novel, likely because I was inserting myself into it and not just collating facts.

I heard a writer, whose name escapes me right now, who basically said give yourself permission to write and don't listen to those - including yourself - who think you can't write.

I'm prepared to take her advice, give it my all and, hopefully, succeed. (less)
