A Comic strip. Panel 1: On the horizon a large passenger ship sinks into the sea. A woman sits on a raft, "if only there was space for us both!" she says as she leans back on a large, well-stocked bookcase. Her lover, clinging to the raft replies "Maybe if we lose the bookcase...?" Panel 2. "My poor darling!" says the woman "Oh, how I wish there was something I could do to help you". The lover, now sunk further into the water continues "... or even just empty one of the shelves?" Panel 3. The lover is now neck-deep in the water and the raft has been carried away on the tide. "Fate can be so cruel" muses the woman, without looking up from the book that she is now reading "Farewell my love. I'll never forget you."ALTA print of a drawing by Tom Gauld: A moonlit landscape, empty except for a spindly tree with a single leaf, and a low flat stone. A bearded man in a large fur coat stands with his hands in his pockets and a strange, black creature wearing a striped scarf and sneakers sits on the stone. Neither looks happy. Below are the words "They wait and wait till things turn glum -- but Mister Gorey does not come"ALTA gothic castle in the transylvanian mountains.A great bear of a man, waring a stovepipe hat and carrying a cane: "Now that you are my bride, you will never leave this castle!" His new bride replies "Wow! Your library is amazing!"He continues "Beyond the castle is a high wall with no gate, and beyond that is a deep. Dark forest with no path."She pulls a volume from a great bookcase, "I suppose it's my library too, now we're married."He goes on "The forest is crawling with ravenous wolves, malignant birds and the spirits of long-dead travellers."Ignoring him, carrying a pile of hardbacks "So many books! I can't believe My luck!"He has sprouted wings, claws and cloven hoofs."When the sun sets, I transform into a wild beast and soar into the night, seized by a terrible bloodlust!"She sits, examining her books as he flies out the window "Ok. I'll stay here and read. See you in the morning"ALTTitle: Dog philosopher Dog "I am a good boy. I know this because my master says so."Master throws stick "Fetch!" Dog "But how does she know? Perhaps I only appear to be a good boy? What does it even mean to be a truly 'Good boy'? So many questions... " Fetches stick and returns to masterMaster asks"Who's a Good boy?"Dog replies happily "I am!"ALT
