Dan's surname in the first few drafts was 'Kelly' - he's of Irish descent and that's a solid Irish name. But then I noticed that having the surname 'Kelly' in the narrative, and in dialogue tags, might have confused the reader ie it's a gender neutral name, but most commonly associated with a female's first name...I thought about some Irish surnames I knew, and again, wanted one that I hadn't seen too often for a fiction hero...Porter it was :) One more thing, never call him Daniel, he's never liked it :)(less)

I outline my plot in depth before starting to write, so I have a very good idea of how I want each scene to play out. The best advice I can give for those who get it, is to ask yourself- what does this character want right now, and who/what is stopping them from getting it. When you have the answers, create conflict between the two, and remember the relationship between action/reaction - that will help to keep the story moving along.(less)
