Writing and reading have been life-long passions for me. I studied English Literature and Film & TV Studies at the University of Glasgow and am currently a full-time secondary school English teacher.

I write in various genres including speculative fiction, magic realism, literary fiction and non-fiction review writing. My main focus is novel-writing. My debut science-fiction novel, 'Turning the Hourglass', will be released by Black Rose Writing in April 2019 and I am currently seeking representation for my coming-of-age novel 'The Stone in My Pocket'. I also enjoy short-story writing.

I'd like to play around with a narrative voiced from different characters' perspectives at various points. It's a contemporary story of a woman who notices something very odd in her parents' house and subsequently discovers a daunting secret. Meanwhile, she's also living with secrets of her own that only the reader is privy to.(less)

One night, years ago, I was thinking about the idea of ghosts and the way we always seem to assume that they must be the spirits of those who have died. But I wondered - what if they weren't from the past, but from the future. Maybe they're glimpses of people who've come back to watch us. From there, I began planning and eking out the idea into a story of historians in the future whose job is to travel back to visit important events and people in the past.(less)

Turning the Hourglass by M.J. Keeley
"What would you do to change something from your past that you regret? How far would you go and what would you sacrifice?

These are questions that Dyrne Samson, a historian from a shadowy 23rd Century organisation, is actually in a position to find..." Read more of this review »
Turning the Hourglass by M.J. Keeley
"An absolutely fantastic read. The style of writing and setting are reminiscent of one of my favourite writers, James Smythe, which in my opinion is no bad thing.
The story doesn’t rely on fancy set pieces or a ridiculously overblown plot. Instead i..." Read more of this review »

Edwin Morgan
“When you go,
if you go,
And I should want to die,
there's nothing I'd be saved by
more than the time
you fell asleep in my arms
in a trust so gentle
I let the darkening room
drink up the evening, till
rest, or the new rain
lightly roused you awake.
I asked if you heard the rain in your dream
and half dreaming still you only said, I love you.”

I am hoping that in creating this group I can help writers find someone to proof read their book. All books will be accepted.
