Complaining About My Boss
[image error]
Yesterday we went out to dinner, because we were celebrating a lot of things, and I was reminded I should also celebrate finishing the revision on Guardian. (Yes, it’s in Larry’s hands right now.) And then I realized I only finished that on Monday. Here I’ve been feeling like a total failure because I haven’t finished anything since I finished it, but I didn’t even take half a day off. (I did clean the house. It hadn’t happened in two weeks.)
In Jordan Peterson terms, I am a horrible em...

Bernie Sanders: The Special Socialist Who Is More Equal Than Anyone – By Amanda S. Green
If I had to describe Our Revolution by Bernie Sanders in just a few words, I’m not sure I could. I am a firm believer that we need to read (or listen or watch) what those who try to influence our country have to say. But damn, I also have to wonder why publishers today feel like they can’t edit memoirs by political figures. If Hillary Clinton needed an editor – and she did – Bernie needed a fleet (a floc...

Hate Speech
[image error]
What is hate speech? A lot of places in Europe — and Canada, our very own stray piece of Europe in the Americas — have anti-hate speech laws, our tech giants are desperately scrambling to enact anti-hate-speech here, and everyone is very concerned about it. But what is hate speech?
Sure, it’s anything that denigrates someone’s religion, skin color, or culture.
And if you believe that, I have some swamp land in Florida I’ll sell you cheeeeeeep.
We don’t have to imagine how these laws would...

What is a supervolcano?
“The term ‘supervolcano’ implies a volcanic center that has had an eruption of magnitude 8 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI), meaning the measured deposits for that eruption is greater than 1,0...

Imprints
[image error]
Recently I had reason to answer the question “When did you start reading science fiction?” (11, Out of their Minds, Clifford Simak, which yes was not strictly SF but was something close.)
And I realized, thinking back how much of an imprint writers leave on you. Not even their ideas and stories (Clifford Simak’s idea of politics and economics was very much New Deal and by the time I was fourteen made me squirmy) but their mood, the way they use words, the sense of the place.
I was amused w...

Pie
I have no idea why Dave Freer kept repeating to me as “he” in the example of getting outed as not sufficiently vocal and leaving and going fully out of the closet.
Eh.
Cue “For the times they are achanging.”
I like pie…
Now my answer to who gets what share of the pie in publishing (actually in most things) is hey, let’s make a bigger pie.
That’s always seemed a sensible answer to me. I’ve spent years talking about ways to make reading more popular with as many people as possib...
I’m Alive
I just sent the Guardian rewrite in. No, I don’t think I’ll write a blog post.
Tough.
You’ll most assuredly survive.

Still Working On Guardian
I’m still working on Guardian, and I’d really, really really like to get it done today. (I have been benadryled (totally a word) a lot for the eczema etc, and it’s taken a toll on work that’s detailed and fussy.
I promise not to make this an habit, but one more Saturday, have some pics to play with:

Bernie Sanders: The Little Socialist That Could – by Amanda S. Green
*Like Thomas the Tank Engine from Hell – SAH
Bernie Sanders: The Little Socialist That Could – by Amanda S. GreenBernie believes the American public is either too stupid to see through him or we just don’t care. I know, I know. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Still, when I see it so blatantly displayed as I do in his book, “Our Revolution”, I can only shake my head. Then I despair a bit when I think about how many actually cast their votes for him in the last presidential election. Of cou...
