When once asked for an author bio, River Dixon was quoted as saying, “Life is pretty good these days. But that doesn’t mean I don’t remember. It’s quite easy, too easy, to slip back to what once was, realizing it still is. Fortunately, I have the knowledge that there is an underlying hope in all this, and that is one of the greatest gifts the years have given me.”

When asked what she thought of his writing, his wife answered, “I don’t know, he puts his soup in the freezer and ice cream in the microwave. I think that just about says it all.”

River Dixon and his family are currently trapped in the incessant heat and beauty of Arizona.

These malformed deficiencies of my soul

Pull the strings of judgement, condemnation

Navigating a fractured landscape, blind

Projecting my own discretions tenfold

Crashing against the meat shields

Of manufactured outrage, manipulation

The dissonance is staggering, spewed

From mouths wired shut, collapsing

Burning into one another, tossed about

In the shaking of the jar, as the hand

Of the marionette smiles a

"If you got a rando invitation from a company that produces snuff films, to appear in a film your very own, what would you do? Well, let break that down into two groups: are we the snuffer, or the snuffee? *¹ Assuming that it’s an invite to do some ps" Read more of this review »

Another great story from this author. They have a way of satisfying my need for the disturbing, but keeping me coming back for more.

The brutality of this is unmatched. It takes a lot to make me cringe, but there are a couple of scenes in this story that made me pause. Intense, extreme, hardcore storytelling with no punches pulled.

More of River's books…
“Frickin’ cell phones are the scourge of our existence.  Here you go, you’re gonna pay a shit load of money each month, to carry around this over-sized hunk of crap in your pocket, and then anybody in the world will be able to call you anytime they damn well please, and interrupt whatever you’re doing, wherever you’re at, anytime day or night.  And you signed up for that shit?  Come on . . . They need to bring back pay phones.  You want to talk about nostalgia, think about standing there, jukebox blaring, finger stuck in one ear, trying like hell to hear what the person on the other end was saying.  And then you get that notification; the countdown, that if you don’t immediately put more money in that damn thing, they’re gonna cut you off.  Digging in your pockets for a dime or a nickel, but you never found it in time, did you?  Remember that shit?  Those were the good old days.”
River Dixon, The Stories In Between

“Who could forget that time I went to take a piss And a raccoon jumped out From behind a tree I screamed like a little girl Got piss all over myself And she laughed so hard Beer shot out from her nose I’d never seen anything so beautiful God-damn, I loved her”
River Dixon, The Stories In Between
