Peter D. Mathews is a tenured Professor of English Literature at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. His research focuses mainly on modern and contemporary British fiction, Australian literature, and literary theory.

He is the author of Lacan the Charlatan, published in the Palgrave Lacan Series in 2020, English Magic and Imperial Madness, published by McFarland & Co in 2021, and From Poet to Novelist: The Orphic Journey of John A. Scott in the Cambria Australian Literature Series in 2022.

He is currently writing a book about the work of the Australian author Rodney Hall, two-time winner of the Miles Franklin Award.

Yes, N is a true masterpiece, and it is full of references and in-jokes pointing back to Scott's earlier works that make reading it with a larger context even more rewarding. His earlier career as a poet can be difficult (both to find copies of the texts and to understand the obscurity of the language), but if you follow the thread of his work there is unity of vision that is extremely impressive. Naturally, that is the thread which structures my own study. I'm halfway through writing the book at the moment. I have a contract with Cambria Press's Australia Literature Series, so it should be published with them in 2022.(less)
