A New Venture
Hello, Friends
I am delighted to announce that "sticking my toe into narration" has worked. My short story, "Eye of Newt: A Driftwood Mystery" is now available as an audiobook. How very strange to listen to the sample on Amazon and hear my own voice speaking to me! What a hoot!

First Draft
Hello, Friends
I'm happy to announce that I've just finished the first draft of my next Driftwood Mystery, "Dungeoness and Dragons," which I hope to publish in April. Do you remember? We met Volkov, the Russian who heads a crime family in Portland, only as a voice on the phone in "Woman in the Waves." Well, he's back with a vengeance as the chief bad guy in this one, and our police officer friends, Charley Whitehorse and Tony Esperanza, have their hands full.
For the first time I've decided to try offering Advance Readers' Copies to anyone willing to write an honest review within a week of its official publication. Once I've finished the next draft, I'll send a PDF to anyone who's interested.
Hope your Muse waxes creatively in 2020!

Woman in the Waves
Dear friends,
I have finally finished my next novel, "Woman in the Waves," which is due to be published on Halloween. The Kindle version is available for pre-order now at $0.99. If you've seen any of my Facebook posts, you probably know I've put a new cover on "Seal of Secrets," identifying it as the first installment of The Driftwood Mysteries. I've also re-published as a stand-alone the short story "Eye of Newt," which originally appeared in "Catch of the Day." It's the second of The Driftwood Mysteries. "Woman in the Waves" will be the third appearance of Charley Whitehorse, Tony Esperanza, Chloe and Kaitlynn Denhurst. I hope it keeps you reading past your bedtime! Here's the universal link:

Thanks to Jonathan Eaton
Jonathan has gifted us a trio of delightful short stories from Corylus Press that are not available on Amazon or Goodreads. Since I could not review them on those sites, I wanted to acknowledge his gift in this blog.
"Us vs Them" is a bit of sci-fi noir, providing us a tongue-in-cheek glimpse of the absurdity of war, even in deep space.
"The Suit" is a love story which shows us that revenge is a dish best served in a space suit. 'Nuff said.
"Nice Weather" is a sad and powerful story of relationships that masquerades as a dog story.
These pieces are all brief and understated, and showcase Jonathan's talent as a master story teller. The ending of each packs a punch and reminds me why I like the genre. Hats off to Jonathan! Tonight I'll raise my glass of cabernet to him!

A New Book
Dear friends,
I have a new book of short stories which will be published on February 5. Catch of the Day is currently available for pre-order at the reduced price of $0.99. Here's the universal link:
myBook.to/CatchDay.
Here's my dilemma: in the process of revising and editing the stories, I have read them so many times I can no longer tell if they work. It's a little like when you've cooked a fish dinner in your house, you no longer smell it until you go outside and come back in. "Wow, it stinks in here!" you might say, but you were totally oblivious to it before. You no longer smelled it because your olfactory nerves had become inured to it.
Some of you really enjoyed my previous volume of short stories, The Pieta in Ordinary Time. Do these stories measure up? I don't know. If you would rather not risk the purchase, I would be happy to send you a gift copy after February 5 if you would like to PM me the email address you use for your Kindle.
Anyway, I do not wish to abuse my membership in the Reviews Group, so if this post is inappropriate, please let me know. I am very happy to be a part of the group. May this new year be a creative one for all!
