Movie Night: All The Bright Places & Mental Health Awareness
~ Jennifer Niven, All the Bright Places
[image error]
Hello awesome people and happy Thursday everyone!
Due to Corona virus and our government’s attempt to eliminate the casualties, all schools, universities, academies and tutoring facilities will remain closed for the next two weeks. This practically means that, for the first time in a long time, I have spare time every afternoon, from 3pm onwards. And since my boyfriend will only come to visit this weekend before getting back to his army unit, I have more time to write, read and watch amazing movies and series.
Like All The Bright Places, for instance…
* DISCLAIMER & TRIGGER WARNINGS: BOTH THE BOOK AND THE MOVIE DEAL WITH DEATH AND GRIEF, SUICIDE ATTEMPTS, MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND EATING DISORDERS. IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH ANY OF THE TOPICS MENTIONED ABOVE, I SUGGEST YOU STOP READING NOW.
Based on the novel by Jennifer Niven, the synopsis of this book, and therefore the movie, goes as such:
“The Fault in Our Stars meets Eleanor and Park in this exhilarating and heart-wrenching love story about a girl who learns to live from a boy who intends to die.
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Elle Fanning!
Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.
Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.
When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.
This is an intense, gripping novel perfect for fans of Jay Asher, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman, and Jenny Downham from a talented new voice in YA, Jennifer Niven.”
Long story short, I loved the movie SO VERY MUCH to the point that I’ll probably watch it again tonight. But, this movie also triggered some really dark and difficult-to-deal-with-them-right-now thoughts, that I am not really sure whether or not I want to rewatch the film, or even read the book for that matter.
Does that make sense?
I truly loved the way this movie handled the topics of loss, grief and mental health illnesses in general. It was raw and honest, and I found myself relating a lot to Violet from time to time. Writing as someone who has lost two of my dearest people in the whole wide world in the past couple of years, I know how hard it can be some days to even function. You don’t want to talk, you don’t want to take care of yourself, you don’t even wanna breathe. And that’s because even breathing hurts when you think that you have lost someone.
That’s how Violet feels and that’s what Theo basically tries to hide throughout the entire movie.
And speaking of that, Finch is basically the person whose example you should avoid.
It’s ok to ask for help when you need it. Nobody’s gonna judge you and nobody’s gonna make you feel bad for going to therapy. I hope that, at some point, going to a therapist when dealing, e.g. with anxiety, is going to be considered as normal as going to the doctor when having pharyngitis.
Dealing with anxiety, insomnia and depression for the past three years now has taught me some really valuable lessons.
a) None of us know the half of what others are dealing with.
b) Ending the stigma of mental illnesses should be one of our top priorities.
c) Paying attention to the people around you, your loved ones, your friends, is crucial if you want to keep them in your life.
You see, some people are better at hiding their feeling than others. Some aren’t. And some… some have become such experts at burying their emotions that you don’t realise at how much pain they were into until it’s very late.

Do yourself a favour. Read All The Bright Places. Watch the movie. And if you or someone you know needs help, be brave enough to ask for it. And you shall receive.
Have you guys read All The Bright Places or watched the movie? What are your thoughts and feelings towards them?
Thank you all for stopping by once again. It truly means the world to me and I want you to know that I most certainly don’t take your presence here for granted.
Love you all to Pluto and back, awesome nerds. It’s thanks to you that I keep writing and creating.
Till next time… Toodles!

Book Depository: My latest experience with them + Alternative Online Bookstores
Living in Greece definitely has its pros (sunny weather, amazing islands, great food etc.) but it has its flaws, too, especially when it comes to finding a decent bookstore with a plethora of options. Because the physical bookstores here don’t have as many books as I want them too, or to be exact they stick mostly to Greek titles instead of having many international ones, too, the only solution for me is to turn to online bookstores.
And that is great. Most of the times…

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I mostly shop from BookDepository because shipping can be crazy and they offer free, international shipping. I have also purchased books in the past from Amazon, but only when I couldn’t find a certain edition in BookDepository or when I was in a hurry in order to participate in a readathon or something like that.
The service I’ve been receiving from both of these companies had been great, until very recently. Back in December 2019, I pre-ordered Chain of Gold, by Cassandra Claire, the first book in The Last Hours trilogy, because a) I love the Shadowhunters’ world and b) I knew this would be one of the most anticipated releases of 2020.
Fun fact: I haven’t received my pre-order yet.

Η θεωρία είναι πάντοτε ασφαλέστερη της πράξης στη ζωή της Λάουρας. Θα καταφέρει να ακολουθήσει και στη δική της ζωή τις συμβουλές που δίνει στους άλλους; Θα καταφέρει να πλησιάσει τον Ορέστη;

Project Letter: New WIP, Summary and Camp NaNo Goal
Hello awesome people and happy Saturday everyone!
I hope you had a lovely week and that you’ll have time to relax and do the things that you love this weekend. Personally, I had a weird week, with many emotional ups and downs, and today was so far a pretty rough day, but I hope that I’ll at least manage to relax and recharge my batteries this weekend.
As you’ve probably figured out by the title of this post, I’m currently working on a new project, one that I never expected to start writing as I’m not really a contemporary rom-com girl on what comes to the books that I read. Still, after a long conversation with my friend Bree Barton, the author of the
