It will continue my family's story as they rebuild their life in America. When not working on this, I am brainstorming ideas for a couple of science-fiction and fantasy young adult novels I've had on the back burner for awhile. Music has a way of moving me; it is like a soundtrack for my thoughts. I feel most creative when listening to classical or instrumental pieces. Sometimes I'll have a spark of inspiration when in the shower, reading an article, or simply daydreaming. Some of my story ideas come from dreams. I keep a dream journal to record those random storylines that quickly fade. When I feel writer's block, I'll browse a local bookstore. Sometimes just reading the titles of other works ignites my creativity and inspires me to write. I used to keep a notebook with me to jot down ideas since they can come at any time, but now my phone's notes are filled with those ideas!

Late in 2019, something I'd been excited about for almost a year (well, actually, almost 20 years!) finally become a reality! On October 8, 2019, my debut novel What She Lost was released! For those of you who know me, this has been a labor of love ever since I sat down with my grandmother and recorded her story on a small 8mm video tape nearly 20 years ago. In the intervening years, I had two bea Read more of this blog post »
