Ailish Sinclair trained as a dancer and taught dance for many years. She now lives beside a loch with her husband and two children where she writes, dances (yes still, medical conditions allowing, pah!) and eats a lot of chocolate.

Out 21st September 2022:
Set in 1st century Scotland, SISTERS AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD includes the battle of Mons Graupius between the Romans and the Caledonian tribes. The book features a neurodiverse main character and some rather complicated romance!

Set in a fictional castle in Aberdeenshire, Ailish Sinclair’s debut novel, THE MERMAID AND THE BEAR, blends an often overlooked period of history, the Scottish witchcraft accusations, in particular the 1597 Aberdeen witchcraft panic, with a love story.

The Map of Witches is a new resource from the University of Edinburgh, utilising the extensive data collected in their Survey of Scottish Witchcraft Database. See it here.

It’s a visual and clickable map of over 3000 people accused of witchcraft in Scotland, and is both fascinating and terrible, as this subject always is. My three quines from THE MERMAID AND THE BEAR are included (se

Beautifully written and meticulously researched, The King’s Inquisitor delves deep into one of Scotland’s most shameful historical events: the North Berwick witch trials.

There’s a nice bit of romance in there too, giving balance to the book.

Veronica Dale Thanks for being my new friend here. The photos on your website are stunning, especially of the Fairy Glen and the lovely waterfalls. We visited Scotland several years ago, but it was on a tour that just popped us into Edinburgh for the day. I'll never forget the walk we took through town, though, during a light evening drizzle.
