[THE] Tips For Organizing Beauty Products

We’re not beauty bloggers, but we *do* know a thing or two about *organizing* beauty products.

It’s a waste of time having to sift through an overflowing makeup bag or a cabinet full of products you don’t even use. By creating functional systems that streamline your routine, you can avoid that unnecessary frustration.

The first step (per usual) is to remove every item you own and group them into categories. Next, go ahead and toss anything that looks old because, ew, bacteria. Any duplicates or products you never use should be on the chopping block. Just remember: If you keep them, they are only taking up space for the items you actually *do* use.

With a pared-down supply, choose storage solutions that make sense in your space and ensure that your daily products remain easily accessible.

[THE] Tips For Organizing Jewelry

Looking for another project? You might as well use this time at home to organize your jewelry so you’ll never have to untangle a necklace chain ever again. Let’s get started…

Step 1: Group by category (ex: Necklaces, Bracelets, Earrings, Rings) Depending on the item, it can also help to sub-categorize, such as separating earrings that dangle from the studs.

Step 2: Purge and donate what you no longer wear, and set aside what is broken or missing a match. If something looks like it needs to be polished, clean it before you store it. (P.S. These polish wipes are a game-changer!)

Step 3: Decide where and how your jewelry should be stored. This will vary from person to person and depends entirely on usable space and the number of items you own.

Whether it’s in a drawer or on a countertop, here are some options for storing your newly-edited jewelry collection to keep it accessible and protected for years to come:

In a Drawer:

Place velvet-lined compartment trays in a drawer to keep your items separated and protected. They come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit your exact needs.

Acrylic or plastic inserts will also work, but only for your less delicate items, such as costume jewelry.

On a Countertop:

If you’re storing your jewelry on the countertop, you’ll want to take advantage of vertical space with stackable or hanging organizers.

Personally, we love using Stackers. They look like simple leather cases on the outside, but the interior is lined with velvet compartments to keep things safe. There are *so* many options to choose from, based on your needs and color preference. To us, Stackers feel like building your own jewelry box—and we love it!

Clear acrylic organizers are an option for anyone looking to create a jewelry display in their closet.

Lastly, no matter how you decide to store your jewelry, it helps to designate a small tray to keep track of the pieces you wear and remove on a daily basis. We recommend placing it on your bedside table, near the bathroom sink, or in your closet.

How do you prefer to store your jewelry? Leave us a comment below!

[THE] Favorite Things For Spending Your Summer at Home

*This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle

Well, here we are. It’s almost August and the closest thing I’ve had to a summer getaway is when my husband is outside with the kids and I’m inside on the couch, listening to true crime podcasts and online shopping. A perfect pairing, if I might add!

Self-care is important. Which is why these days, scrolling through every page on Nordstrom online is my form of meditation, and scheduling a curbside pickup is my exercise.

I’ve never been one to make excuses for shopping, but now since joining Nordstrom’s free reward program, The Nordy Club, I really don’t have to. In addition to offering free shipping and returns, curbside pickups, and free alterations— for every dollar I spend, I receive an automatic point that can be redeemed on anything at Nordstrom, including items at Nordstrom Rack and HauteLook. (Click here to join!)

Another way I like to practice self-care is by staying caffeinated and hydrated at all times. Hot and cold beverage stations are one of the many reasons I love (and am currently experiencing separation anxiety from) nice hotel lobbies. So why not bring that same hospitality into my own home, even if it’s only for me to enjoy?

During my most recent Nordstrom-scrolling meditation, I purchased some new glassware, a marble lazy susan, and marble coasters to create my cold beverage station. I’ll admit that I don’t drink as much water as I should, but placing this set up in my living room serves as a stylish reminder, especially when I infuse rosemary and berries in the carafe.

JULISKA – Berry & Thread Stemless Red Wine Glass

JULISKA – ‘Berry and Thread’ Double Old Fashioned Glass

JULISKA – Berry & Thread Wine Carafe

JULISKA – Stonewood Stripe Set of 4 Coasters

For my caffeination station, I placed my new mugs, marble coasters, a 50’s style Smeg kettle, and all the essentials, directly above my tea drawer. I typically make coffee with my eyes half-closed, so having everything in one place is important when operating on autopilot. As far as I’m concerned, caffeine doesn’t just make the day better, it makes it more possible.

JULISKA – Bilbao White Truffle Coffee Mug

SMEG – ’50s Retro Style Electric Kettle

JULISKA – Stonewood Stripe Set of 4 Coasters

It also feels good to slip on something cute but comfortable, and makes me look more put together than I actually feel. Nordstrom always comes through with items that fit those requirements. Needless to say, anything rainbow or rainbow-adjacent was an automatic “add to cart”.

(Also, never underestimate the power of a Diptyque candle. They are expensive but worth the investment. This seems like a good time to mention that Baies was the official scent of Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding. Don’t believe me? Google it.)

ROOM SERVICE – Rainbow Trim Lounge Jogger Pants

ROOM SERVICE – Rainbow Trim Pajama Shorts

ROOM SERVICE – Rainbow Short Pajamas

RAILS – Theo Sweater

Diptyque – Baies/Berries Candle

With that said, if anyone needs me, I’ll be practicing self-care here on the couch.

[THE] Weekly Mini-Projects: Bathroom

If you are new to organizing, a bathroom is a great place to start. Although bathrooms come in all shapes and sizes, the categories that live there are pretty clear and generally consistent. You will almost always be organizing your items into these groupings:

Face

Hair

Dental

Bath + Body

And likely some or all of these additional groupings:

Eye

Makeup

Hair Tools

Cotton Swabs/Rounds

Backstock

Travel

Depending on your space and time constraints, you’ll probably end up creating groupings within all these groupings. But the good news is that these extra steps are always optional and you can always fine-tune them later. Let’s get started!

Streamline Your Daily Routine

Make your life easier by creating a grab and go system for your morning and nightly routine. It should include any items that you use twice a day without fail: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, contact lenses, skincare products, etc.

In a drawer, use inserts to separate the categories, in the order that you use them. If you have the space, feel free to store the backstock of each item within the drawer to avoid overbuying.

In a medicine cabinet, line the shelves with deeper inserts and store items by category. Just make sure to secure a few dots of museum gel to the bottom of each insert so they stay put.

If you need to store these items in a bin, just make sure that it remains easily accessible and contained by category.

Stack & Store to Maximize Space

One of the most common mistakes we see people making is not taking advantage of vertical space. In a bathroom cabinet, modular stacking storage will maximize usable space and contain your categories so they are easily accessible.

If needed, use inserts within the bin to keep small items from rolling around.

Rethink Under-The-Sink

The space under your sink can be tricky if you have bulky piping, but it doesn’t have to be! Add a turntable or set of canisters to create functional storage in this underutilized but valuable space.

Elevate Your Open Shelving

We’re all about blending form and function, even in a bathroom. If you have open shelving, take advantage of it by keeping your products accessible while also creating a beautiful display.

Bulky items such as toilet paper and contact solution can be stored in woven or wire baskets that match the bathroom’s aesthetic. Prettier items such as your favorite hair products and nail polishes can be stored in clear bins, turntables, and tiered shelving.

To complete the look, color-sort your items in rainbow order and label your categories in THE signature font.

Utilize Floor & Wall Space

A bathroom without drawers or cabinet space can easily lead to a cluttered countertop. By adding wall units, door racks, or freestanding carts, you’ll create more storage opportunities that bring functionality and unique design elements to elevate your space.

Remove Original Packaging

Many products that are found in a bathroom come in a box or bag that is extremely awkward to store. To maximize space, it helps to remove items from their original packaging, especially backstock items, and store them within drawer inserts, bins, or canisters. Some examples include tubes of toothpaste, extra toothbrushes, cotton swabs, flossers, tampons, and razors.
