Get THE Look: Joanna’s Linen Closet

It’s no secret how much I love my linens from Boll and Branch. They are soft and cozy with a high-quality feel, but also look beautiful when stored and displayed on a shelf. When form meets function, what more can you ask for?

Recently, I decided to update our guest linen closet and stock it with extra sets of towels, bedsheets, and of course, a fluffy robe….all from Boll and Branch. My guests are huge fans!

To recreate this look, here are some of the techniques I used to display the products and make the best use out of the space:

Spa Bath Towel Sets:

I prefer to store my towels as full sets by color, rather than by size. That way, it’s easier for guests to differentiate which set belongs to them. When folding, start with the largest towel and stack up from there. If you need to separate your sets, use clear shelf dividers.

Signature Hemmed Sheet Set:

If you haven’t quite mastered the sheet folding technique, don’t be ashamed! Instead of displaying the sets on the shelf, store in a woven basket instead. Just make sure to add a label! You can also use the cute bag that Boll and Branch sends with every order to keep your sheets stored within their set.

*Btw…it’s worth mentioning that these sheets are 100% cotton, fair trade, and toxin-free…which is something to feel good about!

Women’s Waffle Robe:

My guests are OBSESSED with this robe. They also make great holiday gifts!

Since I didn’t have hooks in the closet, I chose to fold the robes using a traditional file folding method. If you need help…follow these steps:

1. Lay your robe on a flat surface, with the front facing upwards

2. Fold one sleeve flat across the chest area of your robe, horizontally. Fold the next one with the same technique, so that it overlaps the first arm.

3. Begin rolling the robe toward you, starting with the tucked hood or the collar. Roll your robe until you reach the end.

4. Once your robe is rolled, wrap the belt around it and tie it in place. This will keep your robe from unfolding during storage.

Bonfire Blanket:

To create a light and airy feel, I used the clothing rod as hanging storage for this beautiful throw blanket. It was so simple…but added such a nice touch to the space!

If you plan to stock up on cozy essentials, use our code LINENCLOSET to receive 25% off your entire Boll and Branch order, the brand’s BEST offer of the year! (The first 10 readers that use our code LINENCLOSET will be surprised with a FREE Bonfire blanket!)

Happy organizing!

[THE] Pantry Staple That Simplifies My Routine

*This post is brought to you by Blue Diamond Almond Breeze

The only thing better than an organized pantry is a fully stocked pantry. I’ll be honest…as someone who generally goes out to eat more than she cooks, pandemic life has since forced me to rethink my entire grocery shopping routine.

Yes, I *actually* prepare meals now. Am I any good at it? Ask Sutton and Stella. They’d probably tell you that their mother makes a really great smoothie, which I absolutely do.

The fact of the matter is that mealtime, including snack time, is a whole lot easier when you have your core pantry staples on hand. In other words, something that allows you to whip up all kinds of recipes on the fly. We only have so much available time and space, so by stocking your shelves the smart way, it maximizes both.

Almondmilk is that core staple for me. I buy shelf stable Blue Diamond Almond Breeze, which is by far our favorite brand, in bulk without hesitation. The reason is because it is shelf stable, so you can keep a supply in your pantry (unopened) for up to one year. It’s also extremely versatile and can substitute for dairy milk in any recipe that calls for it, as well as being delicious and nutritious.

In the mornings, I typically use almondmilk to make smoothies for my kids, which is literally the easiest thing to do with your eyes half-closed. With that same carton, I’ll pour some in my coffee until it matches the appropriate shade of PANTONE 15-1040. If my kids want pancakes, I’ll add some almondmilk to the boxed mix to make them extra fluffy.

Do you see where I’m going with this? Whether it’s sweetened or unsweetened, original or vanilla, Almond Breeze is the pantry item that I always keep on hand. I’ve used it in batches of soups that have lasted us for days. I’ve even made a chia seed pudding. Can you imagine me, of all people, making a pudding? This is who I am when I scroll past a recipe on Instagram and realize I have all the ingredients at my fingertips. Almondmilk, chia seeds, honey, some fresh berries…voilà! Kids, your mother is a chef now.

[THE] Fall Beauty Favorites

*Sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle

I’ll be honest, I’m the opposite of a morning person. If I had it my way, nothing would start until *at least* after 1 pm. Thankfully, the systems I have in place allow me to operate on auto-pilot until the caffeine kicks in.

Introducing….my daily drawer, which as the name suggests, includes all of the beauty products that I use on a daily basis. Since everything is contained, categorized, and within reach, I don’t have to waste time searching for things. Truly the magic of systems at work, people!

I’ve always been the type of person who loves to switch up their routine as the seasons change. Since our schedules are busier than ever now, Nordstrom saved the day (per usual!) as my one-stop shop for all the products I needed.

*FYI…as a member of The Nordy Club, Nordstrom’s free reward program, I receive free shipping and returns, and automatic points for every dollar I spend, that can be redeemed on my next purchase. (Click here to join!)*

If you are looking for new products to add to *your* daily drawer this fall, here’s a rundown of my new beauty finds, as well as my tried-and-true staples, all available at Nordstrom!

Dry Bar Prep Rally Prime & Prep Detangling Spray

Honestly, every Dry Bar product is amazing, but I keep going back to this primer spray. It’s super lightweight, plus it protects my hair from heat damage. I spritz on my damp hair and comb through, right before blow drying it.

SLIP Silk Midi Hair Ties

I always like to tie my hair back so it doesn’t get in the way when doing my skincare or makeup routine. These silk hair ties are my favorite because they are gentle and don’t leave creases. Although they are kind of expensive for a pack of five, they are definitely worth every penny!

Fresh Sugar Roll-On Deodorant

If your skin is sensitive like mine, then you are probably no stranger to underarm irritation. (This might be the first time I’ve ever typed the words “underarm irritation” but if not now, when?) I’ve used this alcohol-free deodorant from Fresh for almost a year now and not only is it soothing to the skin…it’s also effective.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta ® Line:

I’ve always been a fan of Dr. Dennis Gross products, but his Alpha Beta(R) line is a new favorite! It includes three steps: the Pore Perfecting Cleanser, the Pore Perfecting & Refining Serum, and the Exfoliating Moisturizing Cream. I love this line because it’s gentle on sensitive (and dare I say it…aging) skin, but still offers effective exfoliation for smoother skin.

Dior Hydra Life Micellar Water No Rinse Cleanser

To remove my makeup, I use micellar water and a makeup eraser towel. I find this duo more effective than traditional makeup wipes, plus it’s gentler on my skin!

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation

A good foundation is *very* hard to find, especially now that we’re all wearing masks. I love this foundation from Charlotte Tilbury because it’s full-coverage, feels good on my skin, and doesn’t transfer. I apply it with the original Beautyblender, which is basically a godsend for anyone who is clueless about makeup like me. Just apply a few dots of foundation to your face, wet the sponge, and tap away.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer

I could honestly talk about this concealer all day…but I’ll make it short and sweet. Basically, it makes me look less tired than I actually feel, and for that? I am eternally grateful. It also hides any evidence of breakouts and hyperpigmentation. I typically apply it with my fingers or with a Beautyblender, but you can also use the sponge applicator on top.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray

Even with a full-coverage and transfer-resistant foundation, it still helps to add a setting spray into your routine. If you couldn’t tell already, I *love* everything that Charlotte Tilbury does, so her setting spray is no exception. It’s easy to use, feels great on my skin, and keeps everything in place. If you are more of a powder person, you’ll love her Airbrush Flawless Setting Powder

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath Gloss

I’ve always been extremely picky when it comes to lip gloss. Nothing is worse than a sticky texture. I love this Lip Bath Gloss from Charlotte Tilbury because it nourishes my lips and also plumps them for a fuller effect. Rosy Glow and Pillow Talk are my favorite shades!

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Eyebrow Gel

Now, I wouldn’t go as far as to call my brows legendary…but with this product, they definitely stay in place and look more defined. I also love that the texture is lightweight and flexible, flexible, so it never looks or feels cakey on my brows.

[THE] x Cointreau Holiday Hosting Guide

Needless to say, the holiday season is looking a *little* different this year! From virtual and small group gatherings to socially-distanced festivities, many of us are wondering how to make *the most* of the holidays, in order to keep traditions alive…but also create new ones.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Cointreau, the iconic orange liqueur at the heart of over 350 celebrated cocktail recipes, to reimagine your holidays this season with curated tips, exclusive cocktail recipes (and more!) to elevate your holidays at home:

1. Stock Your Bart Cart

Nothing simplifies holiday hosting more than a bar cart. Everyone wins, when guests are able to serve their favorite cocktail themselves! We recommend a bar cart on wheels, which allows it to move where the party moves and then back to the kitchen when items need replenishing.

Three staples our bar cart always has? Cointreau, a base spirit like vodka, and fresh fruit! When mixing up a variety of cocktails for your guests this holiday, Cointreau is a must-have. This iconic orange liqueur is at the heart of more than 350 of the world’s most celebrated cocktails, including The Original Margarita, The Classic Cosmopolitan, and The Sidecar. It pairs perfectly with any base spirit to mix up a classic cocktail.

2. (Cointreau) Cocktails Are a Necessity

Create a signature cocktail for the night, display the recipe, and invite your guests to channel their inner mixologist. Set up all the ingredients ahead of time, including an ice bucket, and any garnishes, glasses, and tools that are needed. We also suggest prepping a batch ahead of time and welcoming guests with the cocktail as they arrive.

One of my favorites is “Everything’s Coming Up Rosé” from Cointreau, it’s the perfect go-to bubbly cocktail to celebrate any occasion. It’s easy to create and engaging for any virtual guests, knowing this holiday season may look different for gatherings. Set up an area in the main entertaining space with a screen (tablet or laptop) to make your virtual guests still feel a part of the festivities.

3. Themed Decor Raises The Bar

When it comes to styling your bar cart, stick to the same color palette as your signature cocktail. Incorporate items such as linen napkins, colored straws, floral garland, candles and decorative glassware. For example, a Classic Cosmopolitan is the perfect shade of blush pink, which you can play off of for decor, and mix with holiday shades of deeper reds and greens.

You can also utilize risers and turntables on the bar cart to maximize space and provide easier accessibility, while also creating some depth and height. It’s best to also think about the cocktails your guests will make and the steps that go into it, ensuring the set-up provides a seamless flow (pro-tip: Create small cards to place throughout the cart walking guests through each step). Going the extra mile with your bar cart allows for a fun and unique focal point in the room and it also makes for a great Instagrammable moment.

4. A Festive Menu Never Fails

When cocktails are involved, light snacks should be too. You can never go wrong with some hors d’oeuvres that are assembly-only, such as a charcuterie board! Mix it up with a variety of nuts, cheeses, crackers, dried or fresh fruit, and honey or jams. We love creating these large boards and platters for parties as they cater to a variety of tastes and you can really tailor the board to complement your holiday cocktails.

Speaking of cocktails, we are loving the two exclusive cocktails we created with Cointreau: Clea’s Color Coded Cosmo and Joanna’s Organize, Maintain Margarita (recipes below!) We think *you* will love them, too! We suggest serving them with a light and effervescent salad with a tangy vinaigrette to balance the sweetness of the cocktail and complement Cointreau’s flavor profiles.

clea’s color-coded cosmo:

INGREDIENTS

0.75 oz Cointreau
2 oz Vodka
0.75oz Fresh Lime Juice 0.5 oz Chai Hibiscus Syrup 2 oz Sparkling Rosé

DIRECTIONS

Add all ingredients to shaker except for rosé. Add ice, shake and strain. Finish with bubbles.

CHAI HIBISCUS SYRUP

1:1 sugar to water bring to boil. Turn off and let chai and hibiscus steep for 5 minutes. Strain and serve when cool

joanna’s organize, maintain margarita:

INGREDIENTS

1oz Cointreau
2oz Tequila
1oz Lime
Tablespoon of finely chopped ginger Bar spoon of fig jam

DIRECTIONS

Add all ingredients to shaker.
Add ice, shake, and fine strain. Garnish with candied ginger and/or lime.

5. A Go-To Holiday Gift

Through the years, we have found that it’s a game-changer to have a go-to holiday giftable on hand at home and to keep a few ready to gift whenever and wherever you need. One of our favorite gifts is a chic cocktail kit that has everything you need to make the perfect Classic Cosmopolitan or The Original Margarita… a bottle of Cointreau, a bottle of vodka or tequila, cranberry or lime juice, salt, recipe cards, a shaker, and a citrus squeezer! You really can’t go wrong with a beautifully curated cocktail kit and if you are really feeling creative, you can customize these with fun gift boxes, baskets, and holiday cards too.

Simplify Your Routine with [THE] *New* Vanity & Makeup Collection!

We are so thrilled to have launched another collection of products with iDesign at The Container Store!

THE Vanity & Makeup Collection was created to help those of us who barely have time to get ready in the morning. Let’s be honest: The day should start with a straight shot of caffeine, not sifting through your makeup bag, trying to find your mascara, and then spilling your half-closed bottle of tinted moisturizer.

Not only will these solutions streamline your routine and clear your messy countertop, but they also elevate the look of your space, too!

[THE] Angled Expandable Drawer Organizer

It’s all about the grab-and-go! Place these angled inserts in a drawer to see and access your items more efficiently.

[THE] Stackable Drawers

Customization is key. These stackable drawers are completely modular and come in four different sizes to fit your needs. From lipsticks to eyeshadow palettes, everything will remain visible and neatly categorized.

[THE] Mini 2-Drawer Organizer

This mini organizer includes two pull-out drawers to make the most of narrow spaces, providing storage for contact cases, tweezers, and other small items that tend to get lost in the mix.

[THE] Pill Organizer with Labels

Take your pills…but make it pretty! This pill organizer also comes with labels so you don’t end up taking a multi-vitamin thinking it’s an Advil.

[THE] 2-Tier Organizer

This tiered organizer was made specifically for those narrow shelves in a medicine cabinet. It’s a game-changer!

[THE] Hanging Hair Tool Organizer

This heat-resistant hook fits over a cabinet door or in a deep drawer to provide functional and space-saving storage for your bulky hair tools. Because of the clear design, it’s practically invisible from the outside.

[THE] Hair Tool Holder

Similar to the storage you’ll find in most hair salons, this organizer with a heat-resistant silicone cup is the perfect home for your tools while getting ready. Pair it with a stackable drawer for easy access to your accessories.

[THE] Hair Accessory Bin with Sliding Tray

Instead of storing *everything* in an open bin, this product gives you the option of keeping your most-used items on the sliding tray.

[THE] Silicone Hair Tool Holder

This heat-resistant silicone tray allows you to store your hair tools in a drawer and keep them protected without the worry of tangled cords or heat damage.

[THE] Stackable Hair Tool Bin

These stackable bins are your one-stop-shop for containing your items and maximizing space. If needed, add the heat-resistant silicone tray for extra protection.

[THE] Mini Beauty Bin Tower

Our classic Baby Bins, but now with removable divided inserts for lipstick, palettes, brushes, etc. We’re *very* excited about this one, y’all!

[THE] Bath Labels

And, of course, bathroom labels in THE signature script.

[THE] Home Edit Netflix Show Sneak Peek!

Pop the champagne, pass the candy, and pour the tea, y’all! After months and months of keeping it under wraps, we officially have an announcement to make:

OUR NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES, GET ORGANIZED WITH THE HOME EDIT, WILL BE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 9TH…AND WE LITERALLY CAN’T STOP SCREAMING!!!

From start to finish, filming this show was an experience that we’ll never forget. Not only did we learn so much about the ins and outs of the production process, but we also had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of the most amazing people on this planet. Reese Witherspoon, the Patron saint of everything good in this world obviously being one of them…

The series consists of eight, hour-long episodes that follow us as we tackle projects and transform spaces inside the homes of some of our favorite celebrity clients, as well as within our local communities.

Obviously, we don’t want to give *too* much away before the release date, but we also wanted to share some behind-the-scenes photos as a small sampling of what’s to come…

P.S. If you decide to binge-watch the series, you have our full support. In fact, we’re pushing for the release date (September 9) to be recognized as National “Do Nothing But Watch Netflix, Eat Snacks, and Drink Champagne” Day. Only seems right?
