What I've been reading. Clockwise from top: 1) Book Of Unknown Americans will make you cry. A specially good read with today's refugee crisis being what it is. Granted this is about immigrants to the US but it touches on similar themes of loneliness and alienation. 2) Stasiland is one of the best pieces of non fiction I've ever read. Anna Funder talks to people who lived through the Berlin Wall. Powerful crazy read. 3) Longbourne is Pride And Prejudice from the view of the servant's hall and it's every bit as good as the premise. 4) Mythology by Edith Hamilton is an ongoing read, part of my Read A Book About A Country In That Country list. Amazing. That and Bullfinch (free on Gutenberg!) has me covered. #nowreading #bookstagram

Feeling very sad that we have to leave Greece (and Europe!) in just a few short days. I've learned so much over the past two weeks, it feels like my head is bursting with information. The theme? How countries are run. From the Topography of Terrors and the Wall Panorama in berlin to the beginnings of democracy in ancient Greece, it feels like a crash course on how to run the world. This is from the sanctuary of Aphaia on Aegina island. She was running away from rapey king Minos and wound up here, where they built a temple to her. If only all women trying to escape sexual harassment were treated with the same respect. Maybe not a temple? But not calling them sluts would be a nice beginning #traveldiary #greece

Still eating my way through Greece. While K stays steadfast in his need to eat all the fish on this island, I like to go all over the menu in search of new things. (And ok, ok, maybe I miss masala a leeeetle bit.) This is feta with a crunchy crispy sesame and honey top, drowning in honey sauce. #greece #goodeating #traveldiary

And here's a #nofilter Acropolis at night with the Monastariki Square under it. (I've heard about Paris, about Beirut and Baghdad, but perhaps by saying anything we're feeding the horrible people who do this for some sick sort of attention.) #Athens #traveldiary

Athens at night is a full on party city. Lots of travel guides have been calling it the city which never sleeps, which to be fair, they call a LOT of places. But in Athens this description might actually be true. One euro house wine, lots of options and ooof, I may have overdone it last night. But when in Greece, eh? #traveldiary

Cats of Greece! Practically begging to be petted most of them. Also see that lady with her back to us? She walks around with cat food feeding them all. Will do a longer photo post on my blog later but just look at all the SQUEE. #catsagram #traveldiary

In Berlin, I bought Harry Potter ankle socks and have been wearing the houses according to mood. Yesterday, tired and feeling a bit fuzzy headed, I was Hufflepuff, today I am ready to make grand sweeping pronouncements on Greek myth and architecture so I'm Ravenclaw. Not pictured: absolutely adorable Moomin underwear I also had to buy. #ootd #harrypotter #traveldiary

Greek week is also a lot of foodie shots. I'm sorry, I can't help it. The food is a revelation. I've never eaten real Greek food except at one Delhi restaurant which closed down a while ago. I didn't realise there was so much variety. We found an amazing restaurant off TripAdvisor called Kalamata something, very tapas-style Greek food. This is the "rocket": extremely spicy small sausage served with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a fried egg.
