Good morning from Corbett! We're staying at a lovely home stay surrounded by fields. Our more energetic friends are setting out for a Very Long Walk this morning, but I am satisfied with buttery toast and a book. This from yesterday evening when I was persuaded to go on a Less Long Walk and came back feeling like my hips were going to fall out of their sockets. The breakfast nook, which is also the bar nook. Some of the paintings are hung (these two by K's mum) (as in she painted them, not hung them) and my pet light throws interesting shadows on the ceiling. Leaving tomorrow for Corbett and the long weekend but for the first time ever, I'm actually kinda sad about not being at home. However, there's always this to return to and one cat who will be very sad when I return because we're engaged in a battle over my office chair right now. #home

I guess you could say we've settled in. Olga's gone walkabout, boys are napping in the best spots and the work on the house is very nearly done (except for the sofa and the man making it has a whole list of excuses). We got our curtains put up today, chose spots for all our pictures, all my spare books are gone and I just have to find homes for clothes that don't fit. I can't remember a time when we DIDN'T have five zillion men in and out of the house and five zillion boxes to trip over but we're so close to the end now! Or so I keep telling myself. Finally back on the yoga mat today too. Progress. Home.

First cake in our new house! Unseasonal strawberries went into this Martha Stewart recipe for strawberry cake we made, which is a vanilla pound cake with too much butter to mention (found unsalted butter at a local organic store) and sugar sprinkled on top. It's basically everything you would want in a summer cake: fruity and light and so good we basically ate it for dinner. #baking #domesticgoddess

A) he thought this was the most comfortable spot he could find in a house full of mattresses. B) Looking at his choice of pillow, maybe he just wanted to read about cat parenting techniques? C) now he has relocated to the floor. I got some herbal room freshener spray because the books still smell a bit musty. But the cats find it very objectionable. After a nap, a window seat with a view of an ancient mosque and some very contemporary YA. The light is against me so you can't really see the colours of our bedroom drapes which I'm madly in love with, but they're grey with magenta and beige Louis XV type accents. The book?
