When I'm in the zone, however, the words flow naturally, almost as if I'm not even writing them myself, but simply acting as a conduit - a vehicle through which the universe can get its message across.

My advice for those dealing with writer's block is two-fold. On the one hand, maybe it's not what you're meant to be doing and you need to consider that.

On the other hand, assuming it falls inline with your life's purpose, ask the universe to help you figure out what's missing, and then sit back and be silent and listen. Be open-minded, looking at everything that's around you, scanning for insights and inspiration. Think less, feel more.

Save your thinking for the editing process and just let the will of the universe flow through you. When you get a flash of insight, write it down so you won't forget.(less)

For instance, there were chapters I'd written that made me cry while writing them, or songs I'd written that I love to sing aloud to myself.

That's when you know you've really got something good.

Looking back at where my stories and characters began versus where they ended up, seeing their evolution. There are times I'm amazed such things came out of my head. They don't feel like things that I could have written, but clearly they were because I wrote them (with the help of the Spirit, of course).

The last chapter in "The Fool" was mostly stream of consciousness. Most of the rest of the first draft was done at that point and I just tacked it on at the last minute. I still had to go over it a few times, of course, but just seeing how well it turned out in the raw, so spontaneously like that ... it's really a form of magick.

Some of my favorite parts all happened like that and I feel so humbled and awed by the whole process. It's those moments that make up for all the grinding you have to do in between.(less)
