Victoria M. Sanchez hails from sunny San Diego and lives in foggy San Francisco with her family, and a goldfish. She holds an MFA in Poetics and has published in Big Bridge and Highlights' Hello Magazine. When she is not writing stories and poetry, she spends her time trying to raise good humans, dancing and exploring the crazy-amazing outdoors of California. Although she has been a grown-up for a very long time, she still loves books for children and continues to believe they are magic. This is her first book.

Lynda Barry
“There are certain children who are told they are too sensitive, and there are certain adults who believe sensitivity is a problem that can be fixed in the way that crooked teeth can be fixed and made straight. And when these two come together you get a fairytale, a kind of story with hopelessness in it.

I believe there is something in these old stories that does what singing does to words. They have transformational capabilities, in the way melody can transform mood.

They can't transform your actual situation, but they can transform your experience of it. We don't create a fantasy world to escape reality, we create it to be able to stay. I believe we have always done this, used images to stand and understand what otherwise would be intolerable.”

“No matter what, expect the unexpected. And whenever possible BE the unexpected.”

“Possessing a creative mind, after all, is something like having a border collie for a pet: It needs to work, or else it will cause you an outrageous amount of trouble. Give your mind a job to do, or else it will find a job to do, and you might not like the job it invents (eating the couch, digging a hole through the living room floor, biting the mailman, etc.). It has taken me years to learn this, but it does seem to be the case that if I am not actively creating something, then I am probably actively destroying something (myself, a relationship, or my own peace of mind).”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
