7 Things to Know About Laser Facials

by Tammy Jones

Set your lasers to stunning! According to this report, laser facials hit a 22 percent increase within a single year.

Laser facials can make your skin appear younger by improving blemishes, skin growths, scars, and wrinkles. If you’re looking for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing without buying a dozen little bottles of product, this is it.

This treatment option is one for the ages (to look ageless)! Keep reading to discover seven fun facts about laser facials before your next treatment.

1. Time of Year Matters

Before booking a treatment, check your calendar.

Autumn is considered “laser season,” so it’s best to wait until fall or winter. Otherwise, your laser-treated skin will be hypersensitive to the sunshine.

Regardless of when you schedule your laser treatment, grab that sunscreen!

SPF 30 or higher can protect against skin cancer, premature aging, and improve your treatment results.

2. The Amount Pain Depends

The pain you experience really depends on the laser. Your individual tolerance for pain can make a difference, too.

Ablative laser treatments hit deeper. In fact, some outer layers of skin are often removed. For CO2 or Erbium YAG ablative laser treatments, you could need local anesthetic injections.

Meanwhile, non-ablative laser treatments cause little-to-no pain.

The sensation is similar to having a rubber band snapped against your skin.

These laser facials aren’t just for women, either! You can learn about laser facials for the man in your life before heading out for his and her treatments!

3. It’s Skin Type Inclusive

There are safe and effective resurfacing laser options for all skin tones.

For example, lighter skin tones can benefit from Erbium lasers. These pose less risk for discoloration.

Meanwhile, patients with darker skin tones can consider micro-needling or radio-frequency treatments. Speak with a professional beforehand to determine the best laser facials for your skin tone.

4. Mix and Match Lasers

One laser won’t treat it all. Instead, choose different lasers for different skin concerns, such as:

CO2 lasers for scars, warts, wrinklesErbium lasers to promote collagen remodeling (wrinkles, skin laxity, age spots)Pulsed-dye lasers to absorb pigments (reducing redness, rosacea, hyperpigmentation)

The cost depends on the type of laser and the number of sessions, too.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, non-ablative laser treatments cost about $1,144 a session. Meanwhile, ablative lasers cost about $2,071.

5. The Surgeon Makes a Difference

Choose a well-trained, qualified, and experienced professional. A cosmetic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery can change your entire experience.

6. Know Your Medical History

Speak with your treatment provider about your medical history beforehand. Medications, supplements, or health conditions could induce breakouts.

For example, acne medications can cause scarring. Some products can also make it difficult for you to heal or increase the risk of bleeding.

7. You Might Require Downtime

Your skin might need some time to heal after laser facials. With ablative laser treatments, give your skin two to three weeks for healing.

Moving this Summer? Try These Tips to Stay Organized for that Move

by Cascia Talbert

Spring and summer is the peak time for real estate.  According to a real estate agent, there are more Arbors Homes for Sale in the market and with school out it is the best time for families to move, houston movers put together some tips to help you save money and stay organized for your big move.

Know Your Budget

If you are purchasing a home your mortgage should be no more than half of your gross monthly income.  Look for a home that is the right size for your family.  If you only have one child the five bedroom house that is on the market for 400K might be a little much.  Determine the difference between what you want and what you need.  Is a home with the solar water heater for pool necessary?

Once you found the perfect home you need to hire an affordable and trusting moving company.  Do your research and read the latest reviews. Yelp and Google are great sites to use to begin your search. Find companies that have at least four stars.  Ask your friends for recommendations. Make sure their service fits in your budget.

Packing for the Move

Before you pack all your things figure out what you wish to keep and what you can do without. Mark donate on boxes with items to give away. Some people also have a moving sale to get rid of unwanted items. Many people also use a dumpster rental for everything that needs to be disposed.

Get a variety of moving supplies.  Your local home improvement store should carry all the items you will need. Make sure you have different sized boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, furniture protectors and black permanent markers. Many removals specialists, like piano moving services, provide all the necessary supplies; contact them before purchasing any items.

Or you can simply do it yourself, the best way to move a piano, is by wrapping the lid, keys and all sides of the piano with moving blankets and secure them with packing tape. You can load the legs and pedals on a hand truck to make moving easier and more efficient.

Write detailed labels on your boxes.  Label each box you pack with the items in it and the room it should go in. This will help residential movers or long distance movers when they unload the truck into your self storage unit. It will also make it easier for you to unpack and put away.

Get your kids involved.  Show them how to pack their own things.  Help them decide what they want to bring to the new house and what they are willing to give away.

Pack an overnight bag and a suitcase with clothes for a couple of days. This will be useful if you are unable to unpack everything right away.

Arrival at Your New Home

Take your time unpacking.  You probably won’t need to use all of your things the first day.  Get your beds and furniture set up first before you unpack your boxes.

Get to know the neighborhood.  Introduce your family to your new neighbors. Walk around the neighborhood and familiarize yourself with your new surroundings.  If there is a park nearby take your kids there.

Conclusion

Moving can be exciting for your family.  If you stay organized and get your kids involved the move will be less stressful for everyone.

7 Benefits Of Learning a Second Language In 2019

by LouAnn Moss

We’re living in a connected world today, and that isn’t going to change anytime in the future. Why shouldn’t we want to speak more languages so that we can communicate with the people we can now reach?

Despite this, classes teaching foreign languages are becoming scarce.

If the schools don’t think learning another language is important, why should you bother?

Below are seven benefits of learning a second language that will change your mind.

1. Increase Your Job Prospects

It shouldn’t be surprising that companies looking for bilingual employees are at an all-time high. Global trade is higher than ever. By putting a second language in your resume, you’re setting yourself apart from the other people applying for your job.

In fact, between the years 2010 and 2015, the demand for bilingual workers more than doubled in the United States.

This increase is happening for two reasons.

The first is the expansion into other markets. Companies need to hire people who can communicate with customers in other countries. It’s hard to sell to someone when you can speak to them.

The second is to talk with manufacturers overseas. Much of the manufacturing base has moved to other countries. It’s easier to handle things when you can speak the language.

2. Speak the Language of the Locals

Do you love traveling? You aren’t alone.

Spending time out of the country in new and strange locations is both fun and enriching. But what happens when you don’t speak the language?

You can likely get by if you stick with the regular tourist spots. Many tourist locations cater to English speakers.

But if you want to get out of the tourist traps and experience the local culture, you’re going to have an easier time if you can speak the local language.

You don’t have to be fluent to do this. You only need to be able to communicate. When you do this, you can experience parts of a country that you may not have been able to if you only spoke one language.

There are plenty of ways to do this with online courses. Online courses will allow you to practice your Spanish skills on your own time so you can be ready for your trip.

3. Delay Dementia

Have you ever heard the saying, you use it or lose it?

That applies to your brain and memory. While you may not completely remove the chance of getting dementia, learning a second language can help reduce your chance or delay its onset.

A study done at Edinburgh University found that bilingual individuals were able to delay the onset of dementia for up to five years.

This finding is consistent with other memory studies that have found that exercising and using your brain is useful for preventing memory problems when you’re older. The more you use your mind during your life, the fewer problems you’ll have when you’re older.

4. Improved Memory

Have you ever heard of working memory? It’s the process your brain goes through when it processes and stores information during a short period.

A study done by the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology found that bilingual children had a better working memory than those who only spoke one language.

It doesn’t matter what part of your life you’re trying to improve. Having a better working memory can help.

You can better remember phone numbers, grocery lists, names, birthdays, and anything else you can think of.

5. Improve Your First Language

You might think that learning a second language will make your grasp of your first language worse, but the opposite is true. It can help.

When you are learning a second language, you’re doing a lot of grammar review with your first language. There are a lot of little things you need to watch out for.

As you go through this process, you can use what you learn to develop your original language grammar skills.

These improvements can help you become a better writer, speaker, and all-around communicator.

6. Appreciate Other Cultures

We spend a lot of our time in our own bubbles. It’s hard to know how other cultures function when you have no exposure to them.

When you learn a second language, you are getting a crash course in how another culture communicates.

You won’t only learn about how they communicate either. You get to learn about new ideas and ways to communicate that you wouldn’t know otherwise.

The exposure to this can help expand your perspective and give you a deeper appreciation of other cultures. It’s harder to look down on other people when you spend so much time learning about them.

7. Get Better at Multitasking

Speaking another language is a lot of work when you’re first getting started.

You think in your first language. When you’re speaking to someone speaking differently, there are a lot of back-and-forths your mind has to do to translate things.

Switching between languages helps your task-switching ability. You can use this ability in other areas of your life.

This process helps because it teaches your mind to switch between different structures. A study done by NIH confirmed this. They found that bilingual children were more quickly able to switch tasks.

There Are Many Benefits of Learning a Second Language

It doesn’t matter if you are learning a new language to help your mind or to help you in your travels. You will see all the benefits of learning a second language when you decide to take the plunge.

It’s also more accessible than ever to get started. Instead of taking the time to attend a local class, sign up for an online program, and learn in your free time.

If you are looking for other tips that can improve your home life, head over to our article section to find our latest posts.

Feeling Safe and Secure: Home Safety Tips for Women

by LouAnn Moss

Approximately one in ten Americans live alone by choice or by circumstance. Living alone can be empowering, and it gives you the freedom to keep your own schedule and use your space how you want to.

But living alone, especially as a woman, also means you need to be extra mindful about staying safe.

Whether you’re living alone for the first time or often find that you have the place to yourself, here are some of our top safety tips for women that want to up their home security.

List Your Emergency Numbers

If you find yourself facing any kind of emergency, one of the first things you should do is call for help. But in the panic of the moment, it’s all too easy to forget important phone numbers—especially if you’ve lost your cell phone.

Having a home phone and a reliable phone service is essential in case of emergencies. I suggests you visit https://www.EATEL.com/residential/phone/ and hire their services, thus ensuring your phone service will be reliable, and therefore up and running when you require it.

Once a reliable phone service has been established, it’s a simple manner of keeping a printed list of emergency numbers with you in your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, car, and purse. This list should include numbers like:

Your phone numberPoison ControlEmergency contacts (family and friends)Local emergency and non-emergency numbersLocal tow and car repair companiesYour insurance companiesYour doctor and dentistLocal hospitals and urgent care centersYour landlordPertinent work numbersGas, water, and electric companies

Make sure that the list is easily accessible in an emergency situation. If you have people visiting, babysitting, or housesitting while you’re away, let them know about the lists.

Install an Emergency Alarm App

Safety alarm apps on your phone are great for staying safe while traveling or commuting alone, but they’re also helpful for living by yourself. They’re quicker than making a call and can alert either your emergency contacts or your local police that you’re in danger, without you giving away your location by speaking loudly enough to be heard over the phone.

There are tons of free or inexpensive apps to choose from for both Android and iOS phones, like Companion, Silent Beacon, and Kitestring.

Upgrade and Repair Your Locks and Keys

One of the very first things you should do after moving to a new home is change out the door locks with the help of a professional locksmith. This is important whether you live alone or not because even if the previous resident turned in their set of keys, there could be any number of spares floating around with their friends or family.

If you’re renting, do a thorough inspection of all your door and window locks to make sure they’re secure, and put in a maintenance request to have your landlord change the locks and repair any broken ones. If you own your home, consider upgrading old locks with deadbolts and keyless entry systems for added safety. You can also put a removable bar in the track of any sliding doors or windows to make them impossible to open from the outside.

Keep an Emergency Weapon By Your Bed

If an intruder breaks into your home at night, you won’t necessarily have time to go find something to defend yourself with. Consider keeping a small self-defense weapon by your bed to protect yourself with at a moment’s notice.

Practical choices include a baseball bat, pepper spray, wasp spray, or a stun gun. Or, do double-duty on safety by keeping a small fire extinguisher nearby—its spray is effective against both fire and wannabe burglars.

But remember: any weapon you don’t know how to use is a weapon against yourself. So if you choose a stun gun or fire extinguisher, be sure to practice using them ahead of time.

Extra Lighting

Turning off lights when you leave a room is a great way to save electricity. But when you live alone, leaving some extra lights on with the blinds or curtains closed can create the illusion of there being multiple people in the house, especially at night.

If you live on the ground floor or in a rural area, consider installing motion-activated spotlights around the points of entry in your home. While the only prowlers you’re likely to get are raccoons and other nocturnal wildlife, spotlights also make it much more difficult for someone to break into your home undetected.

Install Security Cameras

Security cameras are a fantastic way to monitor your home whether you’re inside or away. Hide some near points of entry in places that would give you a clear view of an intruders face. If your cameras don’t have a night vision mode, it’s a great idea to position them near motion-sensor spotlights.

Take a look at this selection of inexpensive hidden cameras to get started. And if your camera system comes with a yard sign or window sticker, display it in a visible area as an added break-in deterrent.

Prepare for Natural Disasters

Burglars and home invaders aren’t the only types of emergencies you should be prepared for when living on your own. Make sure you know how to be safe in case of fires, floods, storms, and medical emergencies as well.

While you don’t have to go full “prepper” mode, its vital to have a plan for dealing with natural disasters that are common to your area—especially if you’re unfamiliar with them. For example, if you move from the Midwest to the West Coast, research what to do in case of earthquakes or forest fires. Or, if you’re moving from the southwestern states to the East Coast, read up on hurricane and ocean safety ahead of time.

It’s a good idea to keep a “bug out bag” packed with a change of clothes, some ready-to-eat food like granola bars, water bottles, a spare phone charger, your emergency contact list, and a first aid kit with a few days worth of any medications you’re on. That way, if you ever have to leave your home in an emergency, you can grab that bag on the way out the door without taking the time to pack. If you have kids at home, keep a bag packed for each of them as well.

7 Baby Book Ideas to Preserve Your Memories of Your Little One

by Tammy Jones

Have you ever looked at your baby and wished you could press pause? Maybe wish the baby wouldn’t grow so fast? As conventional moms, more likely than not, we share photos and videos of our kids on social media.

Read the amazing comments and acknowledge the likes, but it’s not enough. You want to capture that moment, that milestone. Well, there’s something you can do about that; create a baby memory book.

While it might seem traditional and unconventional, it’s a fantastic opportunity for you to capture major milestones in their lives like their first birthday or even their first vacation. If you want to capture every moment of their first vacation, then consider taking a Vietnam Photo Travel Tour for a great experience.

Are you looking for creative baby book ideas? Well, look no further, here are seven unique ways to keep track of your little one’s milestones, and preserve every precious moment.

Baby Book Ideas

The best thing about having a baby memory book is that you can relive that moment again, recreate the experience. Plus, you can easily tell your narrative or story of that day. Besides, your baby will be glad to see themselves once they grow up.

Let’s dive right into these creative baby memories ideas.

1. The Story of You

Every pregnancy is different. Nausea, mood swings, and changes in the body. The best way to rekindle the moments is to start right from the beginning, at conception. They say kids develop from a pea to grapefruit and slowly to a fist, and before you know it, its nine months and the baby’s out.

It will be a pleasant experience to write about your experiences from the time the baby was inside you. The first sonogram to when you knew the baby is a boy or a girl, and the last prenatal exam.

It will be an interactive journal where you can express to your baby how it felt when they kicked inside you and on the day they decided to brace the world with their presence. You can call it the baby keepsake memory book.

2. The First year

Statistics reveal that in the first year, the growth rate of a baby is double any other time of their life. Every month, the baby grows at least one inch and gains about seven ounces every week. You wouldn’t want to miss out on this incredible time.

You can on easily capture them as they grow, as they sit for the first time, as they learn to stand, crawl, and probably walk. With such growth rates, the baby outgrows their clothes so fast, all the more reason you should capture such moments.

3. Baby’s First Birthday

Before you know it, the baby is one year old. What an amazing first year it was, and now it’s time to celebrate. Take pictures of them in their best outfit, carrying their favorite stuffed animal.

Reaching to one year is one of the most significant milestones. That feeling of accomplishment as a mother because many others don’t get to see that day. Take pictures with the rest of the family and every one of your supporters.

The baby won’t remember this day. But with the memory book and a few pictures, they can relive that time again. Make sure you add it to the baby’s glass cabinets, where you store all the baby’s stuff like toys.

4. Baby’s First Christmas

Ah yes! The baby’s first Christmas. The time to set in the family traditions. A special time when family comes together, cook up some cinnamon rolls, and cookies with a warm cup of tea as you await Santa.

With such an abundance of joy, it would be the perfect time to get them into the festive mood. Dress them in those red elf clothes and takes as many pictures as you want. Visit Santa and take even more photos.

Capture that special moment when you’re decorating the tree and playing in the snow filled with love and happiness. This will always keep the spirit of Christmas within them as they grow up.

5. My Family and Me Book

Over the years, the baby grows and loses touch with their extended family. Sometimes by bad luck, the family loses a member. That’s why it’s essential for you to remind your baby of the time they spent with family.

Introduce them to their uncles and aunts, cousins, grandparents, and other extended family members. Let the baby have a reminder of the time they spent with every one of them.

6. Digital Milestones

At least not all the baby book ideas have to be traditional. The famous actor Ashton Kutcher and his wife had this great idea of email milestones. This is where you create a digital account for the baby.

You can send videos, voice notes, and messages about the baby’s growth over the years. The idea here us to be able to personalize every milestone in the baby’s life and keeping it alive somewhere.

While some people may prefer to blog about their baby, a simple digital account can be a good idea. All the data will remain private, and when your baby is of age, you can share login details. Let them revisit their life.

7. An Alphabet Book

A great idea of a homemade baby book is an ABC book. When your baby turns three or four, they’ll learn the alphabet. What a great way for them to read about the letters in the form of pictures they took with such an alphabet.

For example, you could take pictures of them in animals like the owl for letter O, a dog for letter D, a horse for H, and much more. Let them have something relatable with them in the future.

Relive the Precious Moments

The journey of motherhood starts hard but still precious, and before you know it, the baby is a tween, then a teenager, and they’re off to campus. Some moments are meant to be felt more than once, so embrace these baby book ideas and create something special for that special person.

Top Summer 2019 Fashion Trends: What to Shop For and Wear This Summer

by Tiffany Pratt

Are you feeling overwhelmed by extra-long trend reports? We know you’re tired after clicking through never-ending slide shows of swimsuits and shoe shapes. It’s time to make your list of summer 2019 fashion trends a simple, easy, and resourceful one.

Look no further! This guide is here to give you ideas of how to style pieces and where to shop for the latest trends. Consider this your top fashion cheat sheet for this summer and beyond!

The California Look

It doesn’t take much to nail a boho or hippie look, but these summer fashion trends are almost impossible without understanding the roots of them. California is notorious for its cool, calm vibe and the top summer 2019 trends embody just that. These looks are best served with a side of sunny, blue skies — a true West Coast aesthetic. We recommend checking out DOMINILEATHER to improve your fashion style.

Think bucket hats, racerback tanks, or anything with a psychedelic look a.k.a tie-dye. You can snag a Hawaiian shirt in Etsy shops or even in beachside stalls for more affordable options. Or polish up your look with denim cut-off shorts, vintage sneakers and fashionable enamel pins from this to pull off a beach bum style.

You don’t have to go full-on hippie to recreate the look, either. You’ll find more of these SoCal moments on the runways of Chloe, R13, and Prada. Pair more sophisticated pieces like dresses and skirts with colorful prints to still deliver the all-around boho look.

Bold Statement Jewelry

The ultimate conversation starter is through a bold, statement piece that can almost speak for itself. Not to be mistaken for expensive jewelry, a top fashion jewelry piece can be the seashell headband you found in the souvenir shop. Nothing says wanderlust like a collection of the softest shells from your new favorite beach!

This trend also includes anything with stones, pearls, coins, etc. Transform an awesome local shop find into an elevated, elegant piece you’ll treasure forever. If you do want to spend a bit more coin, one of our favorite accessories are the colorful and contrasting stones in pieces from Eliou.

Boho Summer Handbags

When it comes to summer fashion trends, a good summer bag is essential. One of our first thoughts is straw totes and bamboo-stick purses. ModaOperandi fashion director Lisa Aiken said it best, “They elicit a vacation mindset, even while using them in the city.” This tropical trend is still seen across the globe, from major cities to villas tucked away overseas.

The craftsmanship is the best part. Bottega Veneta has a new, leather pouch clutch that’s perfect for a daytime or nighttime wardrobe. These bags are a versatile summer staple and can tie your entire look together.

Spruce up a plain, summer maxi-dress with these year-round trend bags. Or watch how this compliments any woven or crochet details you already have going on. Find inexpensive alternatives in stores like Topshop and watch how quickly it’ll become your next favorite summer bag!

Your New Favorite Dress

Out with the usual, modern sundresses and in with the retro-inspired silhouettes! Something that can drape, wrap, tie, knot, and otherwise flow naturally is one of the top trends 2019. It gives a sophisticated look while still creating daytime flexibility.

Think: simple tea dress meets your favorite beach cover-up. These styles reveal a bit of ankle and give off a flirty appeal. It’s a flattering piece with a great length for cute sneakers or chunky sandals.

The choice is yours if you want your look to inspire calmer or more spontaneous vibes. Find a dress that flows away from your body, similar to a dropped waist. Play around with prints and colors too, ranging from antique florals to more saturated hues.

Supersized Sunglasses

Sunglasses are essential for completing all summer fashion trends. You want to protect your vision in the hottest way, right? Start by asking to ensure that your next shades are 100 percent UV protected.

Once that’s out of the way, you can say goodbye to all of your modest sunnies. It’s time to re-introduce yourself to big, oversized shades. You know the sunglasses we see professional lawn mowers wearing? Yeah, those.

A pair of 90’s sport oversized shield sunglasses can really kick your look up a notch. Something with a touch of glam like Lady Gaga’s infamous shades is perfect. Grab a pair of colorful Oakleys if you’re feeling extra fierce or buy an all-black version for a more laid back approach.

Cargo Is Back

Wearing cargo is not just for the young and the working — it’s for the fashion-forward, too! Utilitarian themes give your look practicality and uniqueness. Linens, khaki, and cargo are all lightweight layers that are great for hot days where you still need coverage.

Throw on that linen onesie with a comfortable slip-on shoe before your next airport run. Or match a pair of Bermuda shorts with your favorite blouse to also exemplify the trend. You can find out more fashion go-to’s when you’re totally on the go.

Cargo pants are especially comfortable, cool, and efficient during the summer. Or a khaki boiler suit can be another utilitarian option. It makes for the perfect one-step dressing option when you’re ready to get up and go.

Square Toe Sandals

Before you step out of the door, take a look at those feet. Are your shoes tying together your look? We recommend a good, square-toed shoe to balance everything out.

Their smooth, geometric shapes are perfect when paired with more elegant pieces, adding a masculine touch. It’s also a nice way to show that you’re ready for anything, be it a happy hour or chasing down the last subway train! Try slender shoes with a block heel or square toes for a top fashion look.

Find The Best Summer 2019 Fashion Trends

If you found yourself falling in love with these summer 2019 fashion trends, then why not get shopping? You can start small and get your wish list together, adding the pieces that stand out to you most. Or get a few of these trends jotted down and start building your best summer wardrobe yet. Happy shopping!

Tips for Thrifty Moms: How to Keep Your House Cool During Hot Summer Days

by Cascia Talbert

Air conditioning accounts for approximately 12 percent of all home energy expenditures. If you live in a very hot climate, though, it can account for as much as 27 percent!

Whether you live in a hot or mild location, you probably find yourself spending more than you’d like on air conditioning and electricity during the summer months. Visit hvac repair quote if you are considering getting an HVAC installation or hvac repair.

Are you looking for a way to lower those costs without sacrificing your comfort?

Read on for some brilliant ideas on how to keep your house cool during the summer without racking up high energy bills, but for those who want a quick solution, consider getting help from a professional commercial ac service to get yourself an ac unit installed. .

Cover Your Windows

Your windows are one of the best places to start when it comes to cooling down your house.

If the blinds or curtains covering your windows are wide open with all day long, you’re going to be letting in a lot of sunlight. This, in turn, can heat up your house and cause your air conditioner to kick on, running up your electric bill.

Make an effort to cover your windows during the hottest part of the day to cool your house down and minimize the amount of time the air conditioner spends running.

Seal the Cracks

If there are gaps in your windows or doors, you’re probably letting a lot of cold air out and hot air in. This is a surefire way to increase your electric bills during the summer months.

Take a walk through your house and look closely at the windows and doors. Check the areas around your recessed lights and in crawl spaces, too.

If you notice any cracks, seal them up to prevent air from leaking out.

Check Your Insulation

Make sure you have sufficient insulation throughout your home as well. This will help to keep cool air in and warm air out.

If you don’t have adequate insulation, your thermostat will have to work harder to keep your house cool (and keep it warm during the winter).

For those who live in older houses, it’s especially important to check your insulation and update it if necessary.

Turn Off the Lights

Be sure to turn off the lights when you leave a room.

Keeping your rooms dark and cool when they’re not in use will help to cool down your whole house. It’s also an easy way to minimize the amount of electricity you’re using.

It might take some effort at first to make this a habit. You’ll be glad you created this habit when you see your next electric bill, though.

Use Light-Colored Furniture Covers

If you can’t stand the idea of keeping your windows closed all day, a good compromise is to open them part of the way and use light-colored furniture covers on your couches and chairs.

Dark colors will absorb more heat from the sun. This, in turn, can heat up your house and make your air conditioner work harder to cool things back down.

Use a Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans are a good alternative to the air conditioner. They help to keep your house cool but require much less electricity than the air conditioner to operate.

If you’re going to install or start making more use of your ceiling fans, make sure you’re utilizing them to their full potential. This means setting them so they turn counter-clockwise.

When your ceiling fans rotate this way, they pull cooler air up from the ground and blow it back onto you.

Use a Dehumidifier

Make sure your house isn’t too humid, too.

Reducing the humidity in your house with a dehumidifier is an easy way to start feeling cooler even as temperatures start to rise. This will help to reduce sweating and keep you more comfortable, too.

In addition to using a dehumidifier, be sure to also use the exhaust fan in your bathrooms after a shower or bath to help cool things down in there (and the rest of your house).

Unplug Your Appliances

An easy way to reduce your electric bill and keep your house a bit cooler is to unplug your electronic devices when you’re done using them.

If you leave your devices plugged in, they continue to suck up energy even when they’re turned off.

Starting getting in the habit of unplugging everything or use power strips to reduce your energy usage.

Run Your Air Conditioner the Right Way

It’s important to avoid putting too much strain on your air conditioner.

If you require it to run all day to keep your house cold, even when nobody’s home, it’s going to have to work harder and your electric bill will reflect that extra work.

Instead, set your air conditioner to a higher temperature during the day and then lower it in the evening when you return as needed.

You can also use a programmable thermostat so you don’t have to worry about adjusting the temperature.

Maintain Your Air Conditioner

Finally, make sure you’re taking good care of your air conditioner.

If your air conditioner is damaged, it’s not going to run in the most efficient way possible. This, in turn, will make it harder for you to lower your energy bills and could result in the need for more expensive repairs later on. Priced Right Plumbing Heating and Cooling is morristown nj’s top heating contractor for heating service, repair, and installation which I would recommend you to contact if you have any HVAC concerns.

You can read here to learn about signs that your air conditioner is in need of repairs from this air conditioning repair service.

Make sure you’re having it serviced regularly, too by an air conditioning service company. This will help you ensure it continues to work well, and it will help you catch potential issues early, before they turn into expensive problems.

4 Healthy Frozen Meals The Whole Family Will Enjoy

by LouAnn Moss

The world demands a lot from parents in this day and age.

Your child needs to be safe and supervised at all times. They need to have a rich portfolio of extracurricular activities on top of academic excellence. On top of it all, you need to prepare a healthy and balanced meal for them three times every day.

The problem is that these demands haven’t come with any extra hours in each day. Perhaps that’s why two-thirds of parents don’t think they’re meeting their kids’ nutritional needs.

If you want to keep up with your life without compromising your child’s health, try these healthy frozen meals.

Healthy Frozen Meals for Families

It’s tough to find food that is healthy, kid-friendly, quick and easy to make, and affordable. These options fit all of those criteria.

1. Caulipower Cauliflower Crust Pizza

The cauliflower craze seems to have started with the rise in gluten sensitivities. No matter who you are, though, cutting down on refined carbs is a healthy step.

The pros at Caulipower are experts at using cauliflower to replace refined carbs. Their frozen pizza is a fan favorite.

Their pizzas come with several toppings including veggies, cheese, pepperoni, or turkey pepperoni. They also have the increasingly popular Margherita pizza.

2. Love the Wild Salmon with Red Coconut Curry

Salmon is one of the most nutritious types of protein you can offer your family. That means less reliance on top nutritional supplements to get in all your micronutrients.

If you want an easy way to serve salmon, look no furth than Love the Wild. Their red coconut curry salmon has an Indian-style flavor the whole family will enjoy.

3. Frozen Chicken Fingers

It doesn’t get much more kid-friendly than chicken fingers. Instead of going through a fast-food drive-through or taking out your fryer, try oven-baked frozen chicken fingers.

If your family is vegetarian, your kids don’t have to miss out. Companies like Gardein and Quorn offer meat-free alternatives that are surprisingly convincing.

The best part about chicken fingers is that they’re versatile. It’s easy to pair them with frozen macaroni and cheese. To stick to the healthier side, try frozen veggies that steam on their own in your microwave.

4. Amy’s Vegetable Lasagna

As delicious and kid-approved as pasta is, it can do a number on your child’s nutrient balance. The sauce, cheese, and meat that goes into pasta are even worse.

Amy’s Kitchen is a powerhouse that’s known for its healthy, organic, and vegetarian frozen foods. Their vegetable lasagna doesn’t disappoint.

This frozen lasagna uses all the hallmarks of a traditional lasagna like tomato sauce, cheese, and Italian spices, all these ingredients you can only get from an italian market. It swaps out the meat for veggies, but their recipe maintains a whopping 16 grams of protein.

Striking the Balance of Healthy and Convenient

In a perfect world, you’d go to the farmer’s market every and cook your kids fresh meals with local produce while they frolic in the fields. Life isn’t a corny commercial, though.

Despite your hectic schedule, the healthy frozen meals above can help you give your kids the nutrition they need. For more great tips on raising healthy kids, check out more articles on our blog.

by Tammy Jones

As a mom, you know how much energy (and patience) taking care of kids requires. That’s why getting the proper amount of sleep is essential. Being the best mom possible is practically impossible if you’re not getting the sleep you need.

By following the tips in this article, you’ll be able to get your sleep routine back on track, so you can be the best mom you can possibly be.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy stems from the belief that your body can cure certain ailments, with the help of additional supplements like plants and minerals. It’s believed that by using homeopathic treatments you can trigger your body’s natural defenses that can help address the health issue.

Homeopathy is used to treat several types of health issues, including allergies, migraines, and even sleep deprivation.

3 Homeopathic Sleep Remedies for Exhausted Moms

Have you tried over-the-counter sleep medications with little to no success? Here are 3 popular homeopathic sleep remedies you should try out to address your sleep problems and improve your health and wellness.

Melatonin

Arguably the most popular of sleep remedies, melatonin supplements help your body produce melatonin, which tells your brain when it’s time to sleep. Many people use them to improve daytime sleeping and address sleep issues caused by jet lag and other scenarios where your melatonin cycle is disrupted.

It’s believed to not only reduce the time it takes to fall asleep but improve the overall amount of sleep time.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral found within the body that plays an important role with overall brain function and heart health. It’s also believed to potentially ease the mind and body, thus making it easier for you to fall asleep. This may be because of its ability to regulate the production of melatonin in your body.

People who suffer from sleep issues and insomnia often have lower levels of magnesium in their bodies. And those who take magnesium, report higher quantity and quality of their sleep.

Most magnesium supplements also contain melatonin and zinc, however, so it’s hard to tell if the improved sleep is also because of those additional ingredients.

Valerian Root

The third sleep remedy on the list is the valerian root. It’s been used for many years to treat health issues like anxiety and menopause. And it’s one of the most of commonly used sleep herbal supplements in the United States and Europe.

People who take these herbs report a perceived improvement of their sleep quality. Although, the research behind this is still somewhat inconsistent. It’s worth trying out if you experience little success with other sleep remedies.

Bonus Treatment: CryoTherapy

CryoTherapy is a new treatment that involves exposing your body to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes. It spurts a natural response method in your body, which may help improve your sleep and even lose weight. If you find this option interesting, you can read more here.

6 Surprising Health Benefits of Hypnotism for Children

by Cascia Talbert

The use of hypnotism as a form of psychological treatment dates back to the early 18th century. Since then, it has grown into an effective, non-invasive treatment for children and adults alike.

While it might seem like a magic trick, hypnotism is a proven treatment that can help children with a variety of psychological symptoms. Read on for our list of the 6 surprising health benefits of hypnotism in children.

What is Hypnotism?

Hypnosis involves temporarily placing a person into an involuntary state of consciousness, in which they become highly responsive to direction and/or suggestions. It is a non-invasive procedure that can treat a variety of anxieties and harmful behaviors, often yielding very positive results.

Health Benefits of Hypnotism for Children

While hypnotism can be a very effective treatment for symptoms in adults, it is especially useful as children’s therapy. This is because children can often have trouble dealing with traditional methods of therapy.

Hypnotism can bring children into an acute state of awareness, opening them up to positive suggestions and affirmations. This can offer a variety of benefits during the most crucial stages of learning and development.

1. Treats Anxiety

Using hypnosis for anxiety treatment can be a very effective approach for a wide range of symptoms and disorders. Our anxieties come from a knee-jerk response in our psyche to a specific situation or stimuli; this is especially true for children.

Unlike adults, who are fully developed mentally, it can be much more difficult to “train” these reactions out of children using traditional therapy methods. Children often have difficulty understanding their emotions and how to process them in a healthy way. As a result, they can have a hard time learning how to get past these anxieties on their own.

Rather than trying to teach them conscious behaviors to overcome anxiety, such as breathing exercises and other coping mechanisms, hypnotism instills a subconscious response in the child. That way, they are changing their body’s natural reactions to such stimuli without the stress and confusion of dealing with therapy.

Hypnotism can help with a variety of symptoms and anxiety disorders, including the following:

Social anxiety disorders, which can cause the child to feel anxious, shy, and withdrawn. These emotions can have a negative effect on their future social interactions. Hypnotism can teach them how to stay calm and confident in social situations.Severe phobias, such as swimming, food, needs, and school. If the phobia has a significant impact on their socialization, learning, and development, hypnotism can train the child to get past these fears.Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from death, burglary, or other traumatic events in the child’s life. These events can have a significant impact on a child’s life and may be difficult for them to cope with on their own. Using hypnotism can help them feel less afraid and anxious in their daily lives.Performance anxiety from tests and other academic projects, stage fright, or sporting events. Hypnotism can leave a child more relaxed and able to perform in these situations.Depression and depressive episodes, which can be especially devastating in children and young adults. Hypnotism can help boost their self-esteem and improve their mood in general.

Even in adults, anxiety symptoms are a difficult thing to conquer. They can leave us paralyzed with fear, severely depressed, and generally unable to cope with the stresses of everyday life.

While adults are able to recognize these symptoms, children are often less able to understand them. This is why using hypnotism may be a more beneficial way to help them overcome anxiety-related symptoms and disorders.

2. Aids Development

As they grow into adolescence and adulthood, there are a number of challenges that children could be faced with. If they find themselves stuck on one or more of these stages of development, they could have a lot of difficulties.

By treating the anxieties, compulsive behaviors, and fears associated with their childhood, hypnosis can help children develop into healthy adults who are free from these symptoms. Even in severe cases, hypnosis can significantly improve the outlook.

3. Helps with Eating Disorders

If a child refuses to eat, this can be very problematic for their growth and development. They need the right nutrients during these crucial years of development and could face severe consequences if they don’t get the proper nutrition.

On the other hand, if a child is overeating, this behavior can very easily carry into adulthood. As a result, they could face many challenges, including obesity and a generally unhealthy relationship with food.

Hypnotism can be a very effective approach to overcoming these unhealthy eating habits in children. By overcoming them early, they face a much better chance of staying healthy as adults.

4. Can Treat Compulsive Behaviors

During early development, children are vulnerable to a number of bad habits and other behaviors that can impact their growth into adolescence and adulthood. These can range in severity and may lead the child to develop other behaviors and social anxieties.

A child can have difficulty overcoming these or even understanding that it’s harmful to do them. This can get in the way of their future mental and social development.

Here are a few examples of compulsive behaviors that are treatable with hypnosis:

BedwettingThumb suckingNose pickingNail-bitingHair pullingSkin picking

Hypnosis can present an effective treatment towards overcoming these compulsive behaviors. While they are not life-threatening by any means, they could severely impact their growth and may require treatment.

5. Improves Family Dynamic

In many cases, hypnotism can help with the overall dynamic of the child and their family. It can help foster positive thoughts and emotions associated with the child’s family, which may lead to a reduction in mood swings and other behaviors that can place stress on the family’s relationship.

6. Helps with Sleep Issues

Sleep is an incredibly important aspect of a child’s development. If they are having trouble sleeping, or even showing signs of insomnia, the results can be very harmful.

Hypnosis can get to the root of sleep issues in children and help them get past it, allowing them to develop into healthy adults.

Final Thoughts

Hypnotism isn’t black magic and it’s not harmful to children. In fact, it can offer a lot of amazing benefits. If you’re battling any psychological issues with your child, it could be a very effective treatment.
