Jennifer Bushroe once swore on a statue of Peter Pan that she’d never grow up. She fulfills this oath daily by dancing like nobody's watching, eating dessert before dinner, and writing speculative fiction. Jennifer is obsessed with fairy tales, history, and mythology and visits the library often for research and her fiction fix. You can find her work in Unsettling Wonder, with more fiction and poetry forthcoming from On Spec, The Future Fire, and Kaleidotrope.

Once my story/book is published, it is no longer mine—it is yours, the reader’s—and thus I feel I don’t belong in the conversational space on my books’ pages. I don't rate my own books (or anthologies I appear in), I don’t read reviews, I don’t answer questions on the page itself (on

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
Albert Einstein

David Mitchell
“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.”
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

Neil Gaiman
“Stories may well be lies, but they are good lies that say true things, and which can sometimes pay the rent.”
Neil Gaiman

Virginia Woolf

Gloria E. Anzaldúa
“Why am I compelled to write?... Because the world I create in the writing compensates for what the real world does not give me. By writing I put order in the world, give it a handle so I can grasp it. I write because life does not appease my appetites and anger... To become more intimate with myself and you. To discover myself, to preserve myself, to make myself, to achieve self-autonomy. To dispell the myths that I am a mad prophet or a poor suffering soul. To convince myself that I am worthy and that what I have to say is not a pile of shit... Finally I write because I'm scared of writing, but I'm more scared of not writing.”
Gloria Anzaldúa
