But the idea is out there, with the story slowly shifting genres in each book until the final story is revealed.

I'm not ready to jump into it yet, so I am writing a series of short stories set in the same universe as the bigger story. It will be a chance to experiment with the writing style, the world the story exists in, and an introduction to some characters that might end up in the bigger project.

First up, is "The Rabbit", a story following the town weirdo from his own perspective. He is both stranger and less strange than anyone in town suspects.(less)

The original idea was a reaction to all the so-called "torture porn" that took over the horror film world for a while - Saw, Hostel, etc. It was all meaningless blood and violence with no emotion or suspense.

I thought, what would happen if my view of those films happened literally -
the people being tortured could not feel any of the pain. Lots of blood, no feeling.

That lead to the idea that a doctor would create a cure for pain and be left to fight off crazy patients who could not feel any pain. The story changed as I wrote to be more of a mad scientist story, a new Dr. Frankenstein facing the terrible consequences of his unleashed monster.(less)
